One Shining Moment: Watch the 2011 NCAA Tournament's Greatest Moments

Michael CahillApr 5, 2011

As the NCAA tournament drew to a close last night, and as the scorekeepers counted up the missed shots and the refs tried to get out of the building in one piece, we were treated to this little number by the immortal Luther Vandross.

We learned right off the bat that, well, college kids love to dance. Whether it's during introductions, warm ups or in celebration, they love shake their money makers.

We, of course, also learned the secret to making a retrospective sports video.

First, you need connecting shots that don’t feature anything important. I’m certain there are a group of guys in a room going, “Look, we need a shot of someone clapping and then another shot of someone passing the ball.”

Then everyone thinks for a minute then begins their own slow clap in celebration of this wonderful idea.

I think it would have been a nice tough to add a few other shots to the list. Like side-by-side comparisons of Matt Howard and Andy Samberg from SNL.

How about a montage of every ugly shot UConn and Butler missed last night, or a scroll of every angry tweet and email that Jay Bilas got for finding VCU’s tournament inclusion laughable?

How about one of Shaka Smart signing the VCU extension, then a shot of the front door that he’ll be exiting out of in three years (I’m just saying...)

Or perhaps visions of thousands of people doing horrible things to their bracket the moment Kansas got their butts handed to them?

They could have done more with this video.  Still, all joking aside, it was a fun look back at one of the most improbable tournaments in history. It was the first time I can remember where even the guy who won the tournament pool actually felt like he lost.

So enjoy the video and save a little place in your head for the moments that could have been.
