President Barack Obama Gives LSU Star Ben Simmons Shoutout While in Baton Rouge

Kyle NewportJan 14, 2016

President Barack Obama has made it no secret that he is a huge college basketball fan, so he probably has a pretty decent idea of just how talented LSU Tigers freshman Ben Simmons is.

In case Simmons was wondering if the president of the United States knew who he was, there was no question after Thursday.

President Obama visited McKinley High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on Thursday to have a town hall meeting regarding Medicaid expansion. Simmons seized the opportunity to see the 44th president speak and made the short trip over to the high school.

Simmons' appearance led to a nice little shoutout from President Obama, who jokingly called the Tigers star "an OK basketball player."

A few years back, President Obama had the opportunity to play basketball with the star-studded North Carolina Tar Heels. Now he has the chance to play with the likely No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft if he has some free time while in Louisiana:

If that happens, there better be cameras present. That'd be a sight to see.

President Obama also fielded some questions on Twitter on Thursday, which is when he paid Simmons a huge compliment:

That's some serious respect for the 19-year-old hoopster.
