Seven teams will head north to join the University of Alaska-Anchorage, as the Seawolves host the 34th Great Alaska Shootout.

As the Associated Press notes (via CBS Sports), no regular-season college basketball tournament has been around longer than this one. UAA is a Division II school in basketball, but it will compete with several impressive contestants this year.

NBA fans will be familiar with past tournament MVPs such as Marquette’s Steve Novak in 2005, Cal’s Ryan Anderson in 2006 and Washington State’s Klay Thompson in 2009.

This year, Belmont is the only team that made it to the 2012 NCAA Tournament. The Bruins were a No. 14 seed and were unable to beat No. 3 Georgetown in their first game.
