Twitter has added an entirely new dimension to the world of sports over the past few years. Some athletes, such as Dwight Howard, Rashard Mendenhall and Reggie Bush, have made controversial remarks on the social network website.

For the most part, however, tweeting has provided athletes and coaches with a way to be more directly connected to their fans. Sports personalities of all types have entered the "Twitterverse," but there are many prominent college basketball coaches who have yet to tweet.

These five coaches, for various and diverse reasons, are five individuals whom college basketball followers would love to see on Twitter.

Rick Pitino (Louisville)

Kentucky's head coach John Calipari does have a Twitter account. He didn't need Twitter, however, to call out Louisville's head coach Rick Pitino.

Pitino was eager to fire right back at Calipari, and having these two personalities on Twitter would be incredible. The feuds would be nonstop, and the two could make Mark Cuban seem calm.

Pitino would be entertaining because of Louisville's in-state rivalry with Kentucky, but could also provide insight on the Big East, which is widely considered to be the strongest conference in the nation.

Roy Williams (North Carolina)

Year in and year out, the North Carolina Tar Heels are one of the nation's most successful teams. They are led by various types of players, but the constant is Roy Williams.

Williams consistently has the task of coaching the nation's best players, and he handles it extremely well. He would be a solid addition to the Twitterverse, and could give college hoops fan some more insight on an extremely prestigious program.

Tom Izzo (Michigan State)

Tom Izzo is one of the nation's most popular coaches. The Michigan State Spartans are recognized by their coach rather than their players, despite their immense talents.

Izzo is known for his tough coaching philosophy, so his tweets would probably be short and simple, but still valuable.

Given Michigan State's difficult non-conference schedule combined with great competition within the Big Ten, Izzo would tweet frequently, although he would have no trouble staying under 140 characters.

Mark Few (Gonzaga)

Mark Few could represent quality basketball for both mid-majors and West Coast teams in the Twitterverse. He has led the Gonzaga Bulldogs to 11 straight regular season WCC titles, and his team has reached the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament in all 12 years of his coaching career.

Not many people know much about Few, nor do they know much about the WCC other than Gonzaga and the Saint Mary's Gaels. Thus, he could give the nation's college hoops fans some much-needed information on mid-major basketball via Twitter, which is probably the easiest way of connecting with Internet users.

Mike Krzyzewski (Duke)

Coach K is college basketball's voice of reason and wisdom. He has led Duke to four NCAA Championships and countless other successes.

Krzyzewski manages to be one of the nation's top-ranked team each year despite playing in the ACC, one of the toughest conferences in the country. The Cameron Crazies love him, his rivals respect him and his colleagues admire him.

Put Coach K on Twitter, and you will see some of the wisest and most insightful tweets that have ever been published.
