Roberto Nelson Video: Watch Oregon State Guard Slice His Face Shattering Glass
There are certain moments in sports that make you stand up and scream at the television because you just saw something impossible. Shattering a backboard in basketball is always going to get a rise out of you because it makes the person who did it look superhuman.
This was the case with Roberto Nelson, the Oregon State guard who dunked the basketball, shattered the glass and suffered lacerations on his face and arm as a result.
Nelson, along with 14 other Oregon State athletes, was participating in "Beavers Without Borders" when the incident occurred. The program is a partnership between the school and Habitat for Humanity, in which the athletes will build a second story on top of a home for a family in Macedonia.

It's certainly a noble cause, and this incident will help bring even more attention to it.
Nelson is fine, though it did take 20 stitches to close the wounds that he suffered as a result of the dunk.
The unfortunate part about the video, aside from the fact Nelson was injured of course, is that the camera isn't actually focused on him when the dunk occurs. There is another person walking around with a camera and he steps in the way of the action on the court. We see Nelson jump and then we can only hear the glass shatter and him fall to the ground.
It's a good thing that he didn't suffer much more serious injuries. With the way that he goes up and comes down with pieces of glass falling everywhere, he could have taken a shard of glass to the eye or cut up his entire body.
It's the second time on this trip that Nelson has made noise for something he did with a basketball. Last week, he hit a trick shot off a concrete wall that went into the hoop.
Nelson is becoming quite the celebrity thanks to this trip, though I am sure that he would say the work that is being done is more important than anything else.
