College Basketball Mid-Major Top 25 for November 15: Second Edition

1. Butler Bulldogs (1)

Record: 1-0

Butler defeated Marian in its season opener with ease. The Bulldogs look forward to a road game against Louisville on Tuesday.

2. Gonzaga Bulldogs (2)

Record: 2-0

Gonzaga has looked great so far with easy wins over Southern and IUPUI. Senior Steven Gray is averaging 21 points per game, 7.5 rebounds per game, and 8.5 assists per game. 

3. Old Dominion Monarchs (3)

Record: 0-1

Old Dominion lost a heartbreaker at Georgetown, 62-59. The Monarchs will play High Point on Monday night.

4. Murray State Racers (4)

Record: 0-0

Murray State is yet to play. The Racers play East Tennessee State on Monday and Mississippi on Wednesday.

5. Wichita State Shockers (5)

Record: 0-0

Wichita State opens its season on Tuesday against Texas Southern.

6. Missouri State Bears (6)

Record: 1-0

Missouri State defeated Oral Roberts in its season opener. The Bears will play in the NIT Season Tip-Off against Arkansas State on Tuesday night.

7. St. Mary's Gaels (9)

Record: 1-0

St. Mary's blew out the College of Idaho last week. The Gaels play a big game against St. John's on Tuesday morning at 2 AM.

8. Ohio Bobcats (10)

Record: 1-0

Ohio defeated Delaware with ease in its season opener. The Bobcats play a solid mid-major team in Oakland on Monday night. 

9. Virginia Commonwealth Rams (13)

Record: 1-0

Virginia Commonwealth showed explosive offense in a 101-86 win over UNC-Greensboro in the season opener. Point guard Joey Rodriguez recorded 17 assists. The Rams will play Winthrop in the NIT Season Tip-Off on Monday night.

10. Wofford Terriers (7)

Record: 0-1

Wofford could not complete a late comeback against Minnesota, losing 69-55. The Terriers get another chance to beat a solid team on the road. They will play Clemson on Monday night. 

11. Fairfield Stags (12)

Record: 1-0

Fairfield recovered after a slow start to defeat Sacred Heart 62-45 on Saturday. The Stags play at Rutgers on Monday.

12. North Texas Mean Green (15)

Record: 1-0

North Texas blew out Henderson State last week. The Mean Green play their in-state foes the Texas Tech Red Raiders on Tuesday and then travel north to play at Kansas on November 19.

13. George Mason Patriots (19)

Record: 1-0

George Mason defeated Harvard on Saturday. The Patriots will play Charlotte in the Charleston Classic on Thursday.

14. Princeton Tigers (23)

Record: 1-1

Princeton picked up a fairly impressive win over Rutgers, but the Tigers were no match for Duke on Sunday night. 

15. Oakland Golden Grizzlies (8)

Record: 0-1

Oakland had no chance at West Virginia in its season opener. The Golden Grizzlies heated up in the second half and showed that they could have what it takes to be one of the better mid-majors in college basketball. 

16. Lipscomb Bisons (14)

Record: 0-1

Lipscomb stuck with North Carolina for most of the game, but the Bisons could not pull off the upset. The Bisons will play Stillman and Austin Peay at home before going back on the road to play No. 14 Baylor. 

17. Pacific Tigers (22)

Record: 1-0

Pacific picked up a solid road win against UTEP. The Tigers will play Nevada in the NIT Season Tip-Off.

18. Weber State Wildcats (16)

Record: 0-1

Weber State dropped the season opener at Utah State despite 28 points from Damian Lillard.

19. Northern Iowa Panthers (17)

Record: 0-1

Northern Iowa stuck with Syracuse for one half, but then fell apart towards the end of the game. 

20. Morehead State Eagles (Not Ranked)

Record: 2-0

Morehead State is picking up where it left off last year. The Eagles blew out Asbury in the season opener and then defeated North Carolina A&T 84-61 on Sunday.

21. Morgan State Bears (24)

Record: 1-0

Morgan State picked up a solid road win against Loyola Marymount in the season opener. There were worries about who would replace the production of Reggie Holmes. Those worries may already be out of the heads of Morgan State fans after Dewayne Jackson and Kevin Thompson combined for 46 points against Loyola Marymount.

22. Long Beach State 49ers (20)

Record: 0-1

Long Beach State lost its home opener to San Diego State. The 49ers play a big game at Clemson on November 19. 

23. Cleveland State Vikings (Not Ranked)

Record: 3-0

Cleveland State played great in the World Vision Basketball Classic. The Vikings dominated Bryant, then beat Iona by 10 points, and then came from behind to defeat Kent State 69-66 on Sunday night. 

24. Siena Saints (18)

Record: 0-1

Siena lost its 39-game home winning streak with an 80-76 loss to Vermont. The Saints, who rarely fouled last season, fouled 21 times on Saturday night. Vermont made the Saints pay by making 22 free throws in 27 attempts. 

25. Charleston Cougars (25)

Record: 1-1

Charleston lost a heartbreaker at Maryland, but the Cougars responded strongly with a win at Holy Cross. Andrew Goudelock has been outstanding through the first two games with 22.5 points per game and 55.6 percent shooting from beyond the arc.
