Malik Monk Scores Most Points Ever by Kentucky Freshman vs. UNC
Kentucky Wildcats guard Malik Monk went off against No. 7 North Carolina on Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas at the CBS Sports Classic, recording 47 points in a 103-100 win.
It was the most points scored by a Kentucky freshman in program history, per NCAA March Madness, and the Wildcats needed every one of those as his final three-pointer came with 16.7 seconds left to put the Wildcats up 101-100.
CBS Sports CBB showed his game-winning three:

It might not have been what head coach John Calipari drew up, but he wasn't angry about the results, per Rob Dauster of NBC Sports:
Monk went 18-of-28 from the field, including a stellar 8-of-12 showing from three-point range.
According to SportsCenter, Monk's mark far surpassed Kentucky's previous freshman record, which Terrence Jones and Jamal Murray held with 35 points each.
It's also the sixth-most points scored in a single game by any player in program history and the most since Jodie Meeks dropped 54 in 2009, per ESPN Stats & Info.
This was the first time Monk scored more than 30 points, with his previous high coming against UT Martin when he recorded 26 points on Nov. 25.
Monk was already a highly touted freshman, as DraftExpress.com has him slated to be drafted fifth overall in the 2017 NBA draft. But if he can rattle off a few more monster games, his stock will only rise while making Kentucky the team to beat in March.
