Romello White to ASU: Sun Devils Land 4-Star PF Prospect

Danny WebsterMay 19, 2016

The Arizona State Sun Devils received a signed letter of intent from 4-star power forward Romello White from Wheeler High School in Georgia, per Evan Daniels of Scout.com.

White, the No. 77 prospect in the country, was rated the fifth-best prospect in the state of Georgia in the class of 2016 and is also the nation's 18th-best power forward.

"Everything about it," White said in his decision to pick ASU, per Daniels. "The school is great. The stadium is amazing. I love it. Their coaches aren’t going anywhere. I’m going to get a lot of minutes, and I feel like I can help the team out a lot."

White's decision to pick Arizona State is the end result of a roller-coaster decision process. In January 2015, he committed to the Tennessee Volunteers. However, he reopened his recruiting process in April 2015 after former coach Donnie Tyndall was fired due to discoveries of violations he committed while the head coach at Southern Miss.

The 6'8" power forward then committed to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Sept. 19, 2015, deciding to play in his home state. However, when Georgia Tech made the decision to replace head coach Brian Gregory with Josh Pastner, White reopened his recruitment yet again.

White, who signed his letter of intent on Wednesday, according to Daniels, becomes the third 4-star recruit signed by head coach Bobby Hurley in this class. He joins Seattle small forward Sam Cunliffe and Virginia center Jethro Tshisumpa.

The first season of the Hurley era was a ho-hum campaign, as ASU went 15-17 and finished 11th in the Pac-12. Landing White completes a solid recruiting class for Hurley. He runs the floor well and appears to be a tenacious rebounder at both ends. That will benefit the Sun Devils, who finished 172nd in total rebounding a year ago.
