NCAA Men's Basketball Dream Team of This Decade

Heath ClaryJan 17, 2015

There have been a plethora of phenomenal basketball players who have passed through the college ranks in the past few years.  In this slideshow, I have assembled the best starting five since 2010.

Players' overall statistics were taken into account.  Even if they played some of their career before 2010, their entire body of work was considered.

Also, the number of years they played was not held against them.  For example, someone who played one outstanding season might get the nod over a player who put together a good-but-not-great four-year career.

I'm sure there will be plenty of disagreements with my lineup, so feel free to comment with your thoughts.

PG: Kemba Walker, Connecticut

1 of 5

The point guard of a dream team needs to be someone who can score in many different ways, as well as be a great passer.

Kemba Walker fits those traits.  While at Connecticut, he was one of the best guards in the nation.

In his senior season, he averaged 23.5 points and 4.5 assists per game.  He drove to the hoop with incredible aplomb, made mid-range jumpers and even made 75 three-pointers.  He was a Sporting News first-team All-American in 2011 and was drafted ninth overall by the Charlotte Bobcats.

SG: Jimmer Fredette, BYU

2 of 5

Only one of his seasons came this decade, but Jimmer Fredette accomplished more in his senior season than most do in a career.  He scored 28.9 points per game, shot 39.6 percent from three-point land and hit nearly 90 percent from the line.

He didn’t just shoot threes from behind the line, his unprecedented shooting range resulted in the phrase "Jimmer Range."  He won both the Naismith Award and the Wooden Award—given annually to the best player in college basketball—and was a consensus first-team All-American in 2011.

SF: Doug McDermott, Creighton

3 of 5

He might have been underrated to start his career at mid-major Creighton, but by the end of his stellar college career, Doug McDermott was accurately known as one of the best scorers in the nation.  He could do it all.

He averaged at least 22 points and seven rebounds in three of his four college seasons, and he shot over 40 percent on threes every year, as well.  He could score in the paint and from downtown, making him one of the toughest players to guard.

Like Fredette, McDermott won both the Naismith and Wooden awards and was named an Associated Press first-team All-American.

PF: Jared Sullinger, Ohio State

4 of 5

highly touted recruit in the class of 2010, Sullinger found success with the Buckeyes from the beginning.

In his freshman year, he averaged 17.5 points and more than 10 rebounds per game.  He was named a first-team All-American in 2011, and the Buckeyes finished the regular season with a stellar 32-2 record.

Sullinger was terrific in his sophomore season, as well, averaging 17.5 points and 9.2 rebounds per game.  He was once again named a first-team All-American, and he led Ohio State to the Final Four.

He declared for the NBA draft after two seasons, and his play netted him a first-round selection by the Boston Celtics.

C: Anthony Davis, Kentucky

5 of 5

Anthony Davis only played one season of collegiate basketball, but it was one of the most dominant performances in recent memory—particularly on the defensive end of the court.

In his freshman year, he averaged 14.2 points, 10.4 rebounds and a nation-leading 4.7 blocks, and he led the Wildcats to a national championship.

He won the Naismith Award, among other awards, and his wonderful season resulted in him being the first-overall pick in the 2012 draft.
