Arizona vs. Oregon State: Score and Twitter Reaction for Beavers' Upset Win

Tim KeeneyJan 11, 2015

If this weekend was any indication of what's to come, the rest of the college basketball season is going to be a lot of fun. That is, unless you're a ranked team.

Arizona became the fifth AP Top-10 squad to lose in the last two days, dropping a 58-56 nail-biter against Oregon State in Corvallis on Sunday night.

Oregon State coach Wayne Tinkle was thrilled with his team after the game per The Associated Press (via ESPN.com):

"

Great win for our guys. They showed unbelievable toughness and resiliency from start to finish. I think all that it proves is it's tough in this conference to win on the road. ... At the end, we made one more play than them.

"

While the Wildcats' Top-10 streak is in serious jeopardy, the Idaho Press-Tribune's B.J. Rains notes the timing of the loss may help Sean Miller's team:

Oregon State's Twitter feed provided a look at a moment Oregon State students won't soon forget:

The Beavers featured a balanced attack on offense, as seven players scored at least six points and no one take more than nine shots. Gary Payton II filled up the box score with 10 points, nine rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block, while Langston Morris-Walker had 12 points and the game-winning layup with 28 seconds left.

Yahoo Sports' Jeff Eisenberg praised the job thus far from Wayne Tinkle, who took over a team that returned zero starters and lost nearly 90 percent of its scoring from 2013-14:

Coming over from Montana, Tinkle has established a mentality focused on defense. And that was easily apparent on Sunday night, as the Beavers held Arizona to 37.8 percent shooting and grabbed 80.1 percent of available defensive rebounds.

Although OSU is very young, its future is bright, as Eisenberg and ESPN's Chantel Jennings discussed:

As for Arizona, it remains one of the most talented teams in the country and a top-two favorite along with Utah to win the Pac-12.

But while Miller's pack-line defense, combined with the Wildcats' size and athleticism, will continue to cause problems for opposing teams, Arizona needs to find some consistency on offense if it's going to make a deep run in March.
