College Basketball Free Money Giveaway: Jan. 28, 2009

This game caught my eye late Wednesday night while studying the overnight lines in College Hoops.  Now there are plenty of games to choose from, and the strongest play I see on the board is a late night Mountain West battle pitting the TCU Horned Frogs @ the San Diego State Aztecs at 10 PM (CBSC).

TCU has begun the New Year with a 5-2 record with two quality ROAD WINS, @ Texas Tech and also at Air Force. Go ahead and mix in a 12-point loss/cover on the road @ BYU, and that's a very respectable road run.

TCU has also played well at home during this stretch with outright wins against conference-leading UNLV and Wyoming.

While coming off of a 17-point home trouncing vs. New Mexico, and with no intentions of disrespecting (13-5) SDSU, I expect TCU with their distinct size advantage to bounce back and hold this game within the rather large spread of TCU +12.5. If 12.5 doesn't do it for you, go ahead and buy the half point to put your mind at ease.

Other Early Plays

Davidson -10 @ Tenn Chatt 7 pm EST

Explanation: ANYTIME Davidson is less than a 20-point favorite against a fellow Southern Conference opponent, take Davidson. (I realize the last time these two teams met Davidson won 100-95.)

PITT -3.5 @ Villanova 7 PM EST

Pittsburgh seems to get very little respect for only having one loss all year.  Look for them to win by 10 or more.

Florida State +12 VS. North Carolina

FSU is BIG and TOUGH down low, and they're getting better and better each game.  FSU has covered against Duke at home this year and plays HARD defense, and I look for them to do it again tomorrow and hopefully grease out a 12-point spread.  Tip 9 PM EST.
