Top 5 WWE Superstars in Need of a Name Change
The Ringmaster. Mean Mark. Do those legends ring a bell? Well, they should. Those are the former names of Stone Cold and The Undertaker. Yes, the names were awful and were doomed to fail.
A lot of times a name makes a man (or woman). It is not always the biggest aspect of a character, but it could be. Today, I am going to examine a few current WWE superstars who could use a new name, a new nickname. Not a new gimmick—I covered that already.
Some of those names will also appear on this list, while others are new. With that being said, let's dive right into one that I think most will agree on...
5. Michael McGillicutty
1 of 5He needs a name change so bad I am not even going to type out his full name again. From now on, his name is Mike. I refuse to type out that spelling anymore with this guy.
Apparently, WWE may be on board with this move because he is currently off TV. That is the best move for all parties involved right now. Bring him back in a few months when he has a new name, new look and/or new purpose of being a WWE superstar.
The guy has some talent and could make a big splash sometime. Honestly, that day is not anytime soon. I wish the man luck, but please get a new name first!
4. David Otunga
2 of 5Honestly, I do not mind the name too much. It is "different," and it stands out to a large portion of the audience. My only gripe is his current storyline needs to be included.
Have him get business cards that read: David Otunga, Attorney at Raw.
It is a fun play on words, with his history at school and the current angle going on. A nickname could do wonders for him right now, and I would love to see it.
3. R-Truth
3 of 5This man is on a roll, and he is doing the best work of his career right now. Sadly, I think the name has to either go away or tweaked just a little bit. I have never been a fan of the "R" in his title. I understand it is for Ron, but it just doesn't fit at all times.
On the other hand, why not add on a nickname? He has been in the company long enough. Fans know who he is. WWE superstars know who he is. Adding a little bit more to his "CONspiracy" could be yet another layer to getting over.
2. Heath Slater
4 of 5Yes, it is yet another NXT star. I am sorry, but this "Rock Band" nickname needs to go.
He is okay in the ring and is young enough to find his calling in the wrestling business, but with his current name it isn't going to happen.
I am cheating a little bit here, but his music also needs to go. Heath needs to follow the Mike route and go away for a while. Come back new and improved and with a new name!
1. John Morrison
5 of 5That is such a terrible promo!
Anyways, I have covered this guy a lot lately, but it needs repeating. A move to FCW may not be the worst idea for him. If not, he is going to stay at the mid-card level or even below it for a long, long time.
I don't think all of his fans would like that too much. The Twitter feeds would be blowing up left and right with each passing loss. Hey, at least he got a shirt involving "monkeys" and "eating lunch." Yep, future top star if you ask me...
Back to reality for a second, the name was intended to be a play on Jim Morrison, the musician. We all know that. Sadly, it hasn't worked, so it is time to go to the drawing board.
My only concern over his name change is he seems to be leaving WWE soon. I won't say "I told ya so," until it happens, but the comments in some of my past articles seem to suggest it would be in order.
My idea for his new name?
Well, why not just change a few letters around and call him Job Morrison? I wouldn't mind Funaki returning or even Colin Delaney. Form the Job Squad 2011! I think that has a better chance of getting over than being called "John Morrison." Just my opinion!
Just a friendly reminder: On 11-1-11, I will be making a MAJOR announcement that will change the way you read my work forever!
