With Jason Campbell, Dan Snyder Continues To Show He Has No Class

Nick CafferkyApr 14, 2010

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, Dan Snyder is probably the worst person in sports. Not as an owner, but he is actually the most despicable human being that has to do with sports in America.

As I die-hard Redskins fan, I dislike him for many reasons including him trying to treat the ‘Skins as his own fantasy football team/hobby; however, the way he handled the trade for Donovan McNabb was just so terrible, it leads me to question why people want to play for the Redskins at all.

In case you aren’t aware of what I am talking about, I’ll fill you in.

Now that McNabb is in Washington, the Redskins’ Jason Campbell is basically irrelevant. So, when the trade went down, one would think that Campbell might be one of the people informed when it happened. Nope.

Campbell didn’t find out until Washington Examiner reporter John Keim called him wanting to get his opinion on the trade.

Campbell was obviously caught off guard and a little shaken up by the news and I don’t blame him. He basically found out he was being cast aside in his organization by someone further outside the loop than he was.

Whether you think that Campbell is a good quarterback or not, the lack of respect that Snyder has shown him is truly astonishing. In his years in D.C. Campbell has done nothing but keep quiet and work his ass off for the organization.

It wasn’t his fault that the Redskins drafted him too high.

Despite this, Snyder has been on a two-year vendetta to replace him as if he was JaMarcus Russell.

When the Redskins acquired McNabb, Snyder or Mike Shanahan should have personally called him and told him up front about the trade and that they would most likely be trading him in the up coming weeks. They probably should have thanked him for his hard work here as well.

My problems with Snyder’s lack of class go way back and reached an all-time high with his treatment of Jim Zorn (my story), but things keep showing that the team I love might be run by the actual devil.

I understand that ”business is business” and the ultimate goal is to win, but Snyder is on a road to a bad place. What happens when players start to see that having no class IS your business? Who will sign with you then?

My sports editor, Alex Jackson, responded to this by saying, “there will always be players who will sign with anybody for a big paycheck.” However, those aren’t the players that win championships; they don’t have the work ethic or the passion to give everything you have to win. Those are the things that win games.

As much as I love the Redskins, this issue of class disturbs me very much. If things don’t change, it isn’t much of a stretch to think of us as the Raiders of the east coast.
