Wentz, Pederson Can Become 1st Rookie QB/Coach Tandem to Start 4-0

Bleacher Report MilestonesOct 8, 2016

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson and quarterback Carson Wentz will enter Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions with a shot to become the first rookie coach-quarterback tandem to start their respective careers with a 4-0 record together, per Elias Sports Bureau (via ESPN Stats & Info).

After Philly beat the Pittsburgh Steelers by a score of 34-3 back in Week 3, Pederson and Wentz joined Rex Ryan and Mark Sanchez of the 2009 New York Jets as the only duo to start 3-0.

Now coming out of a bye week, the 23-year-old Wentz and 48-year-old Pederson draw a favorable matchup with the Detroit Lions, albeit on the road at Ford Field in downtown Detroit.

The Lions started their season strong with a 39-35 shootout win over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1, but the team has since dropped three consecutive games by a total of 11 combined points.

Injuries have played a major role, with star defensive end Ezekiel Ansah and star linebacker DeAndre Levy each missing the past two games. Starting running back Ameer Abdullah also suffered a potential season-ending foot injury in Week 3.

Ansah and Levy have once again been ruled out, and they'll be joined by starting tight end Eric Ebron, who has ankle and knee injuries.

Making matters worse, Lions running back Dwayne Washington is listed as doubtful with an ankle injury of his own, perhaps forcing fellow running back Zach Zenner into a key role, even though he opened the season as the team's No. 4 runner.

Meanwhile, the Eagles are one of just 11 teams since 1990 to win each of their first three games by 14 or more points, with 10 of those squads making the playoffs and four ultimately winning the Super Bowl, per ESPN Stats & Info.

If there's any reason to think the game will be close, home-field advantage is seemingly the only thing working in Detroit's favor.
