Austin, Eagles Agree to Deal

Tuesday, March 31

The Eagles announced on Tuesday that they had signed Austin to a one-year contract:

On March 30, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported Austin and the Eagles have agreed to a deal:

Rapoport reported earlier on Monday that the Eagles were expected to host Austin for a visit this week. He added, "The Eagles will sign WR Miles Austin when he visits this week, source said, assuming all goes well with the physical."

Austin, 30, spent last season with the Cleveland Browns after an extended tenure in Dallas. He made 47 receptions for 568 yards and two touchdowns, finishing third or better on the team in all three categories. Austin also missed four games due to a kidney injury, marking the third time in four years he's missed at least a quarter of the campaign.

The Eagles have already made an offseason splash by signing a former Dallas star, inking running back DeMarco Murray to a long-term deal. Anything Austin signs would probably be at or near the league minimum, but head coach Chip Kelly, at the very least, may be cultivating a reputation as an intradivisional antagonizer.

Philadelphia, as a team, is desperate for help at wide receiver after losing Jeremy Maclin and DeSean Jackson the last two offseasons. Jordan Matthews and Riley Cooper are the only Eagles wideouts remaining who made a significant impact in 2014.
