The exact standing of the New York Jets in different NFL power rankings from around the web varies greatly, but they often find themselves in the bottom-third of the league.

That standing seems fairly accurate as the Jets don't have the look of a top-tier team.

The Jets have wins against the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins, two teams which they were favored to beat.  Their three losses came to the Houston Texans, Pittsburgh Steelers and San Francisco 49ers, three games in which they were underdogs.

The Texans, 49ers and Steelers currently have three of the top five defenses in the NFL.

NFL power rankings are a fickle subject to say the least.  However, they are a favorite debating point among NFL fans as various credible sources have now taken to publishing their weekly opinions.

Here's a breakdown of where the Jets stand in Week 6 power rankings according to various sources.

Source: Associated Press Pro32 Power Rankings

Jets' Rank: 24

Rank Compliments: The Jets were penalized just one spot for losing to the Texans, the No. 1 team in the AP Pro32.  The poll, which consists of votes from 12 NFL experts, seems to be fairly accurate.

Rank Complaints: At 1-4, the Saints are ranked three spots ahead of the Jets at No. 21.  Judging by talent, there's not much wrong with that.  However, on merit, that shouldn't be the case.  The Saints' win came at home against the Chargers.  Three of their losses came against teams with losing records, including the Chiefs and Panthers who each only have one win.

The Saints are currently ranked 28th in the NFL in rushing, 29th in pass defense and 32nd in rushing defense, all lower rankings than the Jets.

Jets' Rank: 25

Rank Compliments: ESPN dropped the Bills below the Jets this week where they belong.  Anyone who watched the Jets throttle the Bills on opening day would realize the Bills shouldn't have been ranked ahead of the Jets in the first place.  Having the Bills as high as 21 was a mistake.

Rank Complaints:  The Lions (1-3) are ranked five spots ahead of the Jets at No. 20.  The Lions are 0-2 at home with losses to the Rams and Vikings.  Their other loss came in Week 3 to the Titans by a 44-41 score in overtime.  The Titans are ranked No. 28 in the poll and the win over the Lions is their only win of the year.

Source: Brian Billick's NFL Power Rankings, Fox Sports

Jets' Rank: 27

Rank Compliments: Billick didn't move the Jets down any further after their loss to the Texans.

Rank Complaints: The 1-4 Chiefs moved up four spots to No. 24 for a loss in which they had just two field goals.  The only thing that is separating the Chiefs from a winless season right now is an overtime win against the 1-4 Saints.  Incidentally, the 1-4 Saints are all the way up at No. 19 according to Billick.

Source: Pete Prisco's Power Rankings

Jets' Rank: 24

Rank Compliments: Prisco ranks the Jets ahead of the Saints, which seems blasphemous for a team with Drew Brees.  However, the results on the field dictate that the Saints at the very least should be lumped where Prisco has them.

Rank Complaints: Not only does Prisco still have the Bills ranked ahead of the Jets, he has them all the way up at No. 21.  The media might not be concerned with the Bills the way they are the Jets, but that ranking is one of the most questionable one for any team in any poll.

The Bills gave up more than 600 yards in a loss to the 49ers last week and only dropped one place in this poll.

Source: Don Banks' Sports Illustrated Power Rankings

Jets' Rank: 22

Rank Compliments: This marks the highest ranking for the Jets in any of the major power rankings.  Banks rates the Jets higher than the Saints, Lions and Buccaneers, teams which have generally been ranked ahead of the Jets in other polls.

Rank Complaints: As with most polls, the Dolphins still rank ahead of the Jets.  The Jets beat the Dolphins in Miami in Week 2 and fared better against their only common opponent, the Texans.  The Jets had the ball with a chance to beat the Texans on the last drive of the game while the Dolphins were blown out against them 30-10.

Source: USA Today NFL Power Rankings

Jets' Rank: 25

Rank Compliments: At least USA Today has the Jets ranked higher than the Bills, unlike Pete Prisco.

Rank Complaints: USA Today had the Jets ranked at No. 20 coming into this week, which was their highest rank among major polls in Week 5.  They dropped the Jets the furthest in the rankings this week despite the valiant effort against the Texans.

Also, it's one thing to rank the Lions ahead of the Jets, Colts, Redskins and Dolphins, but to have them at No. 19 is a bit of a stretch.
