WWE Raw Rating Is in: How Did the Rock Trend with Television Numbers?
Last night, WWE held a very interesting Raw. I enjoyed the show, but it is numbers that matter most. For those interested, here are my full thoughts on the Red Brand last night!
As a reminder, Raw drew a 3.2 rating last Monday night. It was a good number, but WWE would like to see higher numbers around WrestleMania season.
Today, WWE can scratch their heads in confusion!
The first hour of Raw drew 4,701,000 viewers.
The second hour of Raw drew 4,599,000 viewers.
The official number for Raw was a 3.1 rating, slightly down from last week.
My Thoughts on This News
This has to be considered a mild disappointment. The rating is not very positive news, as I am still expecting bigger numbers in March.
The Rock was heavily hyped to appear! There was no surprise appearance. Everybody knew he was going to be on this week, and the company promoted him all week.
Yes, the final segment of the night would have likely have drawn huge numbers, but you have to able to carry fans for two hours, not in certain segments while the others suffer!
Chris Jericho and CM Punk continued their feud, and they took up the first 40 minutes of the show. Add in Daniel Bryan, a few other pieces, and you had a very nice start to the program.
I am not too sure how excited the WWE Universe was to see John Cena vs. The Miz once again, but it opened the second hour for a reason. They are two well-known names, and the match would deliver.
The rest of the show was well done as well. A couple of promos were fun. There was even a triple threat tag team title match added without advertisement.
Next week, we'll have more from Rocky and Cena, as well as the return of Shawn Michaels. WWE continues to push their biggest show of the year, and it is about time ratings started showing it!
On the Smackdown side, they had an "off" week. With their rare Tuesday special, the numbers were thrown for a loop. The Tuesday live show had 2.32 million viewers, while the replay on Friday drew 2.24 million viewers.
Yes, you read the correctly. The replay of the Blue Brand three days after it aired live nearly topped the original Tuesday viewership. Once again, anybody that still sees logic in a live weekly Tuesday show over a taped Friday show needs to remember that numbers don't lie.
