Miami Marlins: Team Makeover Moves Closer to Disaster with Miami Monstrosity

Gabe ZaldivarOct 7, 2011

The Florida Marlins are about to make over their entire franchise with a new stadium, logo and home run monstrosity that is both ridiculous and revolting. If you want to know more about the latter, continue reading.

Every team needs a refreshing do over now and again. Not every franchise can be as steeped in tradition as the Red Sox or Yankees. Sometimes, a new look is exactly what the good doctor ordered. But for the sake of all that is good, don't ruin the team.

The Marlins are attempting to kill any amount of respect we have had for them in their brief existence. This may be a team that is not watched by many citizens in Miami, but you hardly have to make them an eye sore that can't be ignored.

A certain home run monstrosity has surfaced recently. The Miami-Dade department of Cultural Affairs has a video on their Facebook page of what will go down when a player hits a home run in a new park.

The video shows something that is better served in Las Vegas, in a hotel that was popular in 1963. Not only does it cheapen the major league franchise that has two World Series titles, it lessens the home run that is presumably hit.

How can you cheer from the seats when this silliness is occurring in grand fashion. Fans may start booing after a Mike Stanton 420-foot home run.

That isn't all. There is also the case of their new logo. It takes the simple teal and black and over-complicates the color scheme—much like we all did when we got dressed in the 90's.

Someone in the Florida Marlins organization was given free reign when the Miami Marlins were introduced. It is time to stop that reign.

It's as if a marketing guru had an LSD trip that lasted the entirety of the summer. Looking at the video of the sculpture, I have to feel sorry for the popular game fish. This is embarrassing to Marlins swimming in the Atlantic.

If they only knew how they are being depicted, they would very well come ashore to strike. And really, are we celebrating a home run or watching an enormous slot machine?

The Marlins were due for a new stadium. I am not so sure they should move into this one though. They are poised to be the laughing stock of major league baseball.
