Leo Messi: One Reason Why He Is Better Than Cristiano Ronaldo

Roberto Alvarez-GallosoSep 15, 2011

Leo Messi is better than Cristiano Ronaldo in regards to his personality. While I do not know Messi personally, the recent declarations of Ronaldo reinforces my opinion of the Barca astro.

Messi and Ronaldo (like many athletes) receive salaries people like us can only dream of. The only difference is that Messi does not allow the money or the publicity to affect his personality.

Messi does not make statements to bring attention to himself since he is busy attempting to perfect his game. Messi is also a person who congratulates rivals regardless of whether Barca wins or lose.

An example of this was when Messi congratulated Ronaldo during a Press Conference on May 24, 2011 at the end of one of many matches between Barca and Real Madrid. When Messi spoke in the press conference (viewable via the internet), he personified class.

Leo Messi participated in the 2011 Copa America tournament for his native Argentina. When Argentina was performing below expectations, his own country repudiated and humilliated him.

Ronaldo would have insulted Argentina and not returned if he was a native of that country. Messi shrugged off the criticism and declared his intention to play for Argentina.

If there is an award for being down to earth in sports, Messi would win it hands down. My best wishes for Messi and FC Barcelona.
