LAS VEGAS – The Ultimate Fighting Championship is live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas for UFC 130.
BleacherReport.com is live on location and former light-heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Matt Hamill are headlining the event. Ultimate Fighter season 10 champion Roy Nelson and former heavyweight champion Frank Mir will co-headline the event.
Explosive middleweight and former WEC light-heavyweight champion Brian “All-American” Stann faced perennial top-10 middleweight Jorge Santiago to kick off the main card action.
Jorge Santiago vs. Brian Stann:
Stann opens the round with a low kick that misses, but fires another that lands. Lots of feints being used by Stann. Santiago punches and is countered by Stann and he eats a low kick. Santiago presses forward and Stann kicks his legs out from under him. He stands and lands a low kick to Stann’s lead leg and Stann returns the favor. Combination from Stann finds its mark and he finishes with a low kick. Santiago lands a head kick, but Stann absorbs it and moves forward. Huge left hook drops Santiago and Stann jumps right on him. Big shots from Stann find their home and he’s in Santiago’s open guard along the cage. Ground and pound is being delivered by Stann and Santiago locks up full guard to try and neutralize Stann. Stann closes the round firing heavy punches to the downed Santiago and they return to their feet.
Low kick by Stann lands and Santiago counters with a straight right. Santiago shoots and misses the takedown. Stann continues to find success with the low kick to his opponents’ lead leg. Stann throws and misses with a big overhand right. Low kick from Santiago is checked by Stann and they circle. Takedown attempt from Santiago is stuffed by Stann and Stann lands another low kick. Santiago initiates an exchange and gets the worst of it. He throws a kick and Stann catches and releases it without throwing strikes or a takedown attempt. Santiago eats another low kick and Stann grazes him with a left hook. Santiago jumps for a flying knee and Stann sends him to the canvas, but Santiago’s up. Santiago lands a nice punch to Stann’s head. Santiago is knocked down by a huge right hand and Stann quickly follows him to the mat and finishes him off with follow up right hands.

Stann utilized excellent footwork, feints, and crisp striking to keep Santiago guessing. Santiago never seemed comfortable and Stann had an excellent performance. “The All-American” proved that he is improving quickly and he is a contender in the middleweight division.
