2010 NFL Mock Draft 3.0: After The Marshall and Holmes Trades

Thomas JenningsApr 15, 2010

We are now only seven days away from the 2010 NFL Draft, and this will be my third and final mock before the draft. This mock draft includes changes from my earlier drafts, as well as analysis.

1. St. Louis Rams: Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma

The Rams would be senseless to pass on a QB of the future, having released Marc Bulger.

2. Detroit Lions: Russell Okung, OT, Oklahoma State

Lions QB Matthew Stafford is probably still recovering from the hits he took last season, and the Lions can't afford to let him be knocked around again in 2010. Even though Nebraska DT Ndamukong Suh may be the attractive pick, he's not the best one for the Lions.

3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska

Suh won’t fall any further than the Bucs. Tampa Bay will pick the draft's top defensive prospect, and will be more than happy to add his athletic, run-stopping ability to their roster.

4. Washington Redskins: Trent Williams, OT, Oklahoma

Like the Lions, the Redskins now have a franchise quarterback in Donovan McNabb whom they will need to keep upright. Williams is 6-foot-5, 310 pounds, athletic, and agile. This is a guy you want protecting your QB.

5. Kansas City Chiefs: Gerald McCoy, DT, Oklahoma

Even with all of the Chiefs' many needs, defensive tackle isn't the biggest. Still, they would be crazy not to select McCoy.

6. Seattle Seahawks: Bryan Bulaga, OT, Iowa

The Seahawks need a lot of things. With Bulaga still on the board, and the Seattle's offensive line giving up 41 sacks last year, a change is required immediately. Bulaga is seen as a smart, athletic player, and that is something the Seahawks' offensive line will benefit from.

7. Cleveland Browns: Eric Berry, S, Tennessee

The Cleveland secondary was one of the worst in the league last year, and Berry should offer much better play at the safety position. They could build around the top safety in the NFL draft.

8. Oakland Raiders: Bruce Campbell, OT, Maryland

This is finally the time when Raiders owner Al Davis makes a pick that fulfills a huge need and matches his hunt for super athletic players.

9. Buffalo Bills: Jimmy Clausen, QB, Notre Dame

The Bills' top need is at offensive tackle, but Clausen has the potential to be the franchise quarterback. If Clausen does not go here, he could slide.

10. Jacksonville Jaguars: Derrick Morgan, DE, Georgia Tech

The Jags may have already signed defensive end Aaron Kampman and have DE Derrick Harvey on the roster, but Kampman is recovering from knee surgery. This makes Morgan too good to pass up considering Kampman's problems.

11. Denver Broncos (from Chicago Bears): Dez Bryant, WR, Oklahoma State

Denver's decision to select Bryant would surprise some, but having just traded Brandon Marshall to Miami, I expect to see the Broncos draft him. Bryant carries some baggage, but his talent will be an attribute to the Broncos' offense.

12. Miami Dolphins: Dan Williams, DT, Tennessee

The Dolphins could go in a lot of directions with this pick, but Williams would be one of the safer picks—and would be a long-term replacement for veteran Jason Ferguson.

13. San Francisco 49ers: Joe Haden, CB, Florida

The 49ers' cornerbacks aren't anything special, and the 49ers are looking to improve their secondary with this year's draft. That being said, it's time to bring in some young elite talent in the form of Haden, who led the Gators with four picks last season.

14. Seattle Seahawks (from Denver Broncos): CJ Spiller, RB, Clemson

Spiller is a logical choice at this spot, as Seattle gets the halfback that it needs.

15. New York Giants: Rolando McClain, LB, Alabama

The loss of linebacker Antonio Pierce is a priority that needs to be addressed early in the draft by the Giants. If McClain is still available at this point, he will be a certain pick.

16. Tennessee Titans: Jason Pierre-Paul, DE, South Florida

Pierre-Paul's athleticism and play-making ability are just what the Titans need going forward, as they were exposed often on defense last season.

17. San Francisco 49ers (from Carolina Panthers): Anthony Davis, OT, Rutgers

The 49ers will look to improve their offensive line with this pick, and I believe Davis will do just that. He possesses the attributes to be an elite offensive tackle in the NFL, and with Joe Staley on the opposite side at the left tackle position, Davis can come in and start right away at right tackle.

18. Pittsburgh Steelers: Maurkice Pouncey, C/G, Florida

This is the correct pick for the Steelers if Maurkice Pouncey is still available. He can step in and give the Steelers an improvement at either guard or center. It will be a wise step in improving a poor offensive line.

19. Atlanta Falcons: Brandon Graham, DE, Michigan

Graham is a very explosive defensive end with the ability to thoroughly disrupt the edge of an offense. He will make an instant impact on the Falcons' front line. Graham is a fierce competitor and despite his lack of size, is a good all-around defensive end.

20. Houston Texans: Earl Thomas, S, Texas

Thomas is a 5-foot-10, 208-pounder, who is super-fast with the ability to play corner or safety. Some have ranked him as the No. 1 safety over Berry. He would be a great choice for the Texans, who need help to stop fellow AFC South rival Peyton Manning’s passing game.

21. Cincinnati Bengals: Jermaine Gresham, TE, Oklahoma

The Bengals desperately need a quality tight end, and Gresham has an excellent combination of size (6-foot-6, 260 pounds) and pass-catching skills. His blocking could use some improvement, but he would instantly give Cincinnati and QB Carson Palmer a benefit in the passing game.

22. New England Patriots: Sergio Kindle, LB, Texas

The biggest need is at linebacker for the Patriots, who need help in the pass rush. Kindle is a 6-foot-3, 260-pound powerhouse who runs a 4.63 40-yard dash. He’s durable, plays through pain, and excels in big games. He can shadow a tight end or shoot past an offensive tackle. He had 16 sacks in his final two seasons for the Longhorns. If he’s there at 22, the Pats have to take him.

23. Green Packers: Charles Brown, OT, USC

The Packers biggest need is to strengthen their offensive line and keep Aaron Rodgers upright. They did re-sign fellow tackles Chad Clifton and Mark Tauscher, but health and age are concerns with both. At this point, the draft's top five tackles should be off the board, so Brown is the Packers' best option. He would be a solid addition to their offensive line, and would see lots of playing time early in his career.

24. Philadelphia Eagles: Taylor Mays, S, USC

Mays has the size, strength, and athleticism to play safety in the NFL. He also has blazing speed and a quick burst, making him suitable for multiple schemes in the league. With all the good things Mays can do, he does, however, have a couple of weaknesses. Instead of making a play on a pass, he is inclined to go for the big hit. He is also inconsistent at times with his angles and technique, but it's his great athleticism that allows him to recover the majority of the times.

25. Baltimore Ravens: Jared Odrick, DT, Penn State

It is about time to look at replacing 14-year veteran Trevor Pryce on the defensive line, and Odrick may be just what the Ravens need. The Penn State prospect has risen to first-round status. Thanks to his great physical build, he could play any position in the Ravens' 3-4 defense. He would perhaps be best-suited backing up for left end Pryce before eventually taking over the spot for good.

26. Arizona Cardinals: Sean Weatherspoon, LB, Missouri

Not the perfect fit for the Cardinals, but Weatherspoon is extremely versatile and can line-up almost anywhere in the linebacking corps. If Kindle or Graham were to fall, I would expect one of them to be the pick, however, Weatherspoon will still be a very good pick at this stage of the draft.

27. Dallas Cowboys: Rodger Saffold, OT, Indiana

The Cowboys haven't spent a first-round pick on the offensive line since 1989, but a OT is desperately needed after they released veteran Flozell Adams. Meanwhile, valued backups Montrae Holland and Cory Procter are possibly entering free agency after this season.

28. San Diego Chargers: Ryan Mathews, RB, Fresno State

It's likely that San Diego is going to target a RB early in this draft, and most experts believe that Mathews is the second-best overall RB in this draft. He is a compact runner and the type of player that can carry the ball 20-plus times a game, and help in the receiving game. He and Darren Sproles should compliment one another well in a Chargers' backfield that no longer has LaDainian Tomlinson.

29. New York Jets: Everson Griffen, DE, USC

Griffen appears to a great fit for the Jets. However, he could very well be the next Vernon Gholston, because he isn’t particularly motivated, but Rex Ryan could emphasize the potential of a guy with great speed for his size.

30. Minnesota Vikings: Kyle Wilson, CB, Boise State

Injuries to veteran Antoine Winfield and fellow starter Cedric Griffin revealed the Vikings lack of depth at corner. Wilson (5-foot-10, 194 pounds) possesses all of the skills to become a standout cover guy in the NFL. He could easily be drafted in the teens, and would be a steal at this stage of the round.

31. Indianapolis Colts: Mike Iupati, OG, Idaho

The Colts offensive line has been showing leaks in recent years, and while they would prefer to find a left tackle, Iupati provides them with an upgrade on the interior. He may also be good enough to move to tackle at the next level.

32. New Orleans Saints: Jerry Hughes, OLB, TCU

The Saints need to replace linebacker Scott Fujita, who'll play in Cleveland this season. A rush end at TCU, the 6-foot-2, 255-pound Hughes is athletic enough to make the transition. He'll also bring passion to the defense.
