Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy Reportedly Offered WWE Contracts

Tyler ConwayMar 21, 2017

Matt and Jeff Hardy's return to WWE might be happening after all.

Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet reported Tuesday that the organization offered the tag team new contracts, though it's unclear if they will come to terms.

Dave Meltzer said earlier this month on Wrestling Observer Radio that the Hardys were not planning a return.

"They're not going to WWE anytime soon. I do not know the length of the [ROH] deal, but it's not a two-month deal," Meltzer said, per Raj Giri of Wrestling Inc. "They're there [in ROH]."

The Hardys, who left TNA in February after failed contract negotiations, have been working the independent circuit throughout March. They have a deal with Ring of Honor and defeated The Young Bucks for the promotion's Tag Team championships at the Manhattan Mayhem VI event.

It's unclear how long the Hardy's deal with ROH lasts, but it was categorized by Satin as "short term."

With TNA and the Hardys currently embroiled in a legal battle over the "Broken" characters popularized in the promotion, a WWE reunion might make sense. A full-time WWE contract would provide the Hardys financial stability to fight TNA in court, while also protecting them in case of a judgment against them.

However, because of the Hardys' decade-long run in WWE, it's unlikely they would return to television as the "Broken" characters.
