Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Philadelphia Eagles Betting Odds, Analysis, NFL Pick
The Pittsburgh Steelers (2-0) and Philadelphia Eagles (2-0) will both try to stay perfect in their Week 3 matchup, with the former listed as road favorites at sportsbooks. Philadelphia rookie quarterback Carson Wentz will take on his toughest foe yet in a Pittsburgh team that is also 2-0 against the spread.
Point spread: The Steelers opened as 5.5-point favorites; the total was 46.5 early in the week, according to sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark. (Line updates and matchup report)
NFL pick, via Odds Shark computer: 22.3-15.5 Eagles (NFL picks on every game)
Why the Steelers can cover the spread
The Steelers have played outstanding defense in their first two games, limiting the Washington Redskins and Cincinnati Bengals to 16 points apiece. Their offense has not been too shabby either, averaging 31 points behind quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and wide receiver Antonio Brown.
Pittsburgh is still awaiting the return of running back Le'Veon Bell from a three-game suspension for a repeat violation of the NFL's substance-abuse policy, but DeAngelo Williams has filled in nicely with 237 yards and two touchdowns to help balance out the offense.
Why the Eagles can cover the spread
Wentz has undoubtedly been one of the top early storylines of the 2016 season for the Eagles despite playing only one preseason game. A broken rib sidelined him most of the preseason, fueling speculation that veteran Chase Daniel would be under center after Philly traded Sam Bradford to the Minnesota Vikings.
But Wentz has thrived by showing poise in the pocket and without committing a turnover yet, which could lead to another victory here if that trend continues.
Smart pick
Wentz may be off to the best start of any rookie quarterback in franchise history, but you have to seriously consider Philly's opponents in the first two games. The Eagles may have beaten the two worst teams in the league in the winless Cleveland Browns and Chicago Bears, and the Steelers are a totally different animal.
There's a reason Pittsburgh has not suffered a loss and the team has gone an impressive 5-1 SU and ATS in its last six games versus NFC opponents, according to the OddsShark NFL Database. Take the Steelers to win and cover.
