Siemian Has Surprised as Signal-Caller in Denver
Buccaneers defensive tackle Clinton McDonald sacked Siemian and slammed him to the ground. Before going down, Siemian had completed five of seven passes for 68 yards and a touchdown.
With both Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler gone, Siemian became the Week 1 starter for the Broncos after not throwing a single regular-season pass in his career. The only game experience for the 2015 seventh-round pick came on a kneel-down.
Still, the Northwestern alum played well enough in the preseason to beat out Mark Sanchez and Lynch for the starting job.
Renck explained how he earned the first-string gig:
Siemian guided the Broncos to an undefeated start with the sort of poise you look for at the quarterback position. Lynch was unable to keep the team undefeated, falling to the Falcons in Week 5. Siemian will look to improve on his undefeated mark as the Broncos QB against a 1-4 Chargers squad.
