Indiana's Depth Tested on Saturday
Saturday, Mar. 19
According to CBS (via Big Ten Talk), Johnson is out for the remainder of Saturday's game. He had six points off the bench before suffering the injury.
Johnson has had issues with his ankle this season, as he missed the last four games prior to the NCAA tournament with a sprained ankle as well.
Upon his return, Johnson provided valuable minutes in Indiana's first-round game against Chattanooga, recording seven points and six assists in 22 minutes.
Teammate Collin Hartman told Jeff Greer of the Courier-Journal (via the Indianapolis Star) he loved what he saw from Johnson.
"He came in with a lot of energy, a lot of passion," Hartman said. "It was good to see him out there. We hated not playing with him; we love when he's out there."
Johnson has provided support and depth to an Indiana backcourt that is headlined by Yogi Ferrell, one of the top point guards in the nation this season. Ferrell understands how important Johnson has been to the team's success this year, per Greer.
"Rob’s a pit bull, man," Ferrell said. "That’s my guy right there. To have him back out there, locking up, I was happy to see that. That’s just another stopper for us."
Johnson wasn't the only Hoosiers player to be bitten by the injury bug Saturday, as freshman forwards OG Anunoby and Juwan Morgan suffered injuries as well, per WAVE-TV's Kent Taylor.
Johnson's injury couldn't have come at a worse time for Indiana, which will attempt to keep its postseason hopes alive against one of college basketball's biggest powerhouses without the guard. If the Hoosiers are able make it out of the first weekend of the tournament, Johnson will be able to focus on getting healthy for a potential Sweet 16 game.
