Oher Placed on IR

Friday, Nov. 25

Steve Reed of the Associated Press passed along word of the roster move, noting the team also placed Zack Sanchez on injured reserve.

Rivera Comments on Oher's Recovery

Wednesday, Nov. 2

Panthers head coach Ron Rivera told reporters Oher remains in the concussion protocol.

Oher Emerged as Valuable OL During 2015 Season

Oher protected quarterback Cam Newton's blind side effectively en route to an NFC title in 2015, so it's safe to say he emerged as one of the anchors on the Carolina offensive line during that fruitful run.

"There's a toughness about him that permeates throughout the rest of the guys," Rivera said of Oher, per ESPN.com's David Newton. "The hard thing about playing the position he plays, if you give up one sack, everybody thinks you had a bad day. Sometimes it's not fair. Sometimes it's not his fault. Sometimes it is."

Following his stellar 2015 campaign, Oher was rewarded with a three-year contract extension in June that is scheduled to keep him with the team through the 2019 campaign. According to Newton and ESPN's Adam Schefter, the deal included $21.6 million in new money and $9.5 million guaranteed.
