Murray's Absence Created Issues for Raiders Offense
In his fourth season out of UCF, Murray is coming off a breakout campaign. He had 1,066 yards and six touchdowns in 2015, his first 1,000-yard season. He has 172 rushing yards, 63 receiving yards and three touchdowns through four games this year. Murray spoke about improving his game, per ESPN's Paul Gutierrez:
"I think now it’s a matter of really learning the playbook inside and out, knowing it like the back of my hand so I can play a lot faster. Any time you’re out there thinking, you play slow or you’re not confident. So me knowing it now, going into my second year (as the starter), I think I can do a lot more. I feel a lot more confident.
"
The Raiders don't have much depth behind Murray, so they were hoping he wouldn't be out of action for long. Neither Jalen Richard nor rookie DeAndre Washington has experience as a primary NFL ball-carrier.
