Cuban Comments on Carlisle's Future with Mavericks

"When you've got a great coach, you want to keep him around, so we're working on making that happen," Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said on 103.3 FM ESPN, per ESPN's Tim MacMahon.
Carlisle and Mavericks Working on Contract Extension
Monday, Oct. 26
Carlisle is entering the final season of his four-year contract, per Spotrac, but ESPN’s Marc Stein confirmed the Mavericks are “in advanced negotiations” on a new five-year deal.
Carlisle's Coaching Success, Experience Needed to Steer Dallas Through Coming Years
Carlisle took over the Mavericks head coaching job before the 2008-09 season and hasn't had a single losing campaign in seven seasons with team. He also made the playoffs in the daunting Western Conference every year but one and boasts a 338-220 record in Dallas (60.6 winning percentage), per Basketball-Reference.com.
He clearly plans on being part of the future of this organization as well, as evidenced by his quotes at the team luncheon, per Earl K. Sneed of Mavs.com:
"Rick Carlisle to season-ticket holders at the @dallasmavs luncheon: "Stick with this team, because it's going to get better & better."
— Earl K. Sneed (@EarlKSneed) October 26, 2015"
A contract extension would be welcome news for the franchise that narrowly missed out on center DeAndre Jordan this offseason and settled for Wesley Matthews (coming off a ruptured Achilles tendon), Deron Williams (coming off one of the worst seasons of his career) and Zaza Pachulia as additions.
The Mavericks also lost Tyson Chandler, who was a major part of Carlisle’s championship team, to free agency.
Dallas still has Dirk Nowitzki as an all-time great and one of the best players of his generation, but he is 37 years old with his best seasons behind him.
The 2001-02 NBA Coach of the Year has his work cut out for him if the Mavericks hope to make the playoffs again this season. Fortunately for Dallas fans, Carlisle understands what it takes to win with this team and will provide consistency for the foreseeable future if he signs this extension.
