ESPN recently published Scouts Inc.'s rating of every veteran NFL player, and the ratings of some Jets were pretty interesting.
Scouts Inc. only ranked those with ample NFL experience, so players Jet fans might be most interested in, such as Mark Sanchez and David Clowney, are not rated by the organization. Yet several other Jets received pretty intriguing scores, especially when compared to other Jets or other members of the league.
Below (and on the next page), I comment on those ratings which were most notable, either because they deviated from my expectations or because of what they say about the Jets' team. The ratings for every Jet, which are only available to ESPN Insiders, can be found here.
The Scouts Inc. grading scale is as follows:
100-90 Elite Player
89-80 Outstanding Player
79-75 Solid Starter
74-70 Good Starter
69-65 Adequate Starter
64-60 Good Backup
59-55 Adequate Backup
54-50 Marginal Backup
49-45 Below Average Backup
20 Developmental Player
Darrelle Revis, CB: 80.
I thought this rating, which, along with the "80" grade received by Kerry Rhodes and Kris Jenkins, was the highest rating awarded to any Jet, was a bit low for Revis. The "80" graded puts Revis in a tie for ninth among NFL cornerbacks, whereas some publications have him listed as high as third.
Revis is also a more effective player than both Rhodes and Jenkins right now (when you consider Jenkins' impact over a whole season and factor in his stamina issues). He should be rated accordingly.
