Knighton Scaring Off Teams Because of Fitness
Thursday, March 12
Dianna Marie Russini of NBC Washington reported that a head coach told her that teams are scared of Knighton "because he's out of shape."
According to Yahoo Sports' Rand Getlin, "A source indicates it's unlikely a contract gets done today (with anyone). Could be a while before we learn where he lands."
Raiders, Broncos Out on Knighton
Tuesday, March 10
Knighton told Anderson on Tuesday that the Raiders and Broncos are out of the running for his services at the moment:
"The Raiders made me an offer but it's not close to what I was looking for. So as of right now the Raiders and Broncos are out of the race. A lot of people had me going to the Raiders because of [current Raiders head coach and former Broncos defensive coordinator] Jack Del Rio, but I'm now focusing on a few other teams right now.
"
Earlier on Tuesday, ESPN's Cecil Lammey reported that the Raiders were front-runners for the 28-year-old defensive tackle's services while saying the Indianapolis Colts were still in the hunt.
Lammey also noted that the Washington Redskins and Chicago Bears were out of the running.
On March 5, Knighton spoke about his free agency with Anderson, saying, "I want the process to happen pretty quickly. Once the market opens, I'm going to decide which one I have the strongest interest in and move strategically with potential visits from there and not waste my time."
On March 5, Scott Bair of CSNBayArea.com discussed the Raiders' interest in Knighton with Team Stream Now:
On Feb. 15, Renck reported on Oakland's potential pursuit of Knighton:
"A team captain and locker room leader, Knighton is a free agent. He said he will take less to remain in Denver, but there have been no contract talks this offseason. With the coaching staff set, the Broncos have just begun evaluating their personnel and needs.
If Knighton reaches the open market next month, the Broncos will be hard-pressed to match a team offering, say, $30 million over five years. The Oakland Raiders are expected to pursue Knighton, and the Detroit Lions could have interest if Ndamukong Suh signs elsewhere.
