Philadelphia Eagles Fans Destroy DeSean Jackson Jerseys for Some Reason

Dan CarsonSep 22, 2014

Philadelphia Eagles fans do not understand when or where to destroy jerseys—or rather, a cross section of their number seem to have mistaken a guy who was fired without cause for someone who purposefully abandoned ship.

For the first time after being cut by Philadelphia in April, DeSean Jackson stepped back onto Lincoln Financial Field, this time in the burgundy and gold of the Washington Redskins.

Naturally, some Philadelphia fans gave their former No. 1 receiver a hero's welcome: burning, abandoning and altering their Jackson jerseys for good measure.

Some taped.

Some seared.

A Jackson dunk tank was implemented.

One person ran over an insentient piece of fabric with a car.

Some sad individual smeared fecal matter (NSFW) on a pair of Jackson jerseys.

And the Eagles won 37-34, despite a Jackson touchdown and corresponding taunt. Good times in Philly again!

It should be noted that the destruction of Jackson’s jerseys appeared to have occurred before the game on Sunday. It should also be noted that the six-year veteran never asked to be traded from the team and seemingly wanted to stay with the Eagles before the franchise abruptly decided to cut their star receiver for “football reasons” in April.

At the time of the cut, rumors stemming from an NJ.com report swirled regarding Jackson’s off-the-field conduct and the company he kept, but the team initially refused to say why Chip Kelly opted to part ways with his leading receiver. Only recently did Kelly come out and give a reason.

As ProFootballTalk’s Michael David Smith reported Thursday, Kelly told reporters before the Washington game that the Eagles wanted “bigger” wide receivers, and Jackson (5’10”) didn’t fit the mold for the offense. All right then.

In any case, it’s clear that for some Philly fans, once you are no longer an Eagle, your jersey is to be demolished. You are persona non grata, regardless of how many touchdowns you scored or what punts you returned for earth-shattering wins.

Sigh. Oh, Philly.
