WWE Battleground 2014 Matches: Full Predictions for Each Contest on the Card

The Doctor Chris MuellerJul 17, 2014

WWE Battleground is just a few days away, and that means it's time to make predictions. We have a packed card this year with some matches that do not have as predictable an outcome as the average pay-per-view bout.

This is going to be a stacked show from top to bottom. We have four title matches, three of which have specific stipulations, and a few big feuds in non-title bouts.

This will also be the second PPV in a row with two Divas matches, something that rarely ever happens. The Divas division is growing in both size and talent, which is why they can run so many programs at once.

WWE has had a string of good PPVs, and Battleground looks to keep that trend going with some great matchups and at least one new champion.

This slideshow will look at each match and attempt to offer logical predictions for every outcome.

Cameron vs. Naomi

1 of 8

The Funkadactyls have officially called it quits, and there seems to be quite a bit of bad blood in this storyline that may come to an end on Sunday.

The pre-show will feature the former partners squaring off in a grudge match to settle their issues. It won't be a technical match, but it could get violent.

Cameron plays a good heel, but she still has some shortcomings in the ring. This could be better than people think, but it will probably come up short in comparison to the Divas title match that will take place later in the show.

Naomi is one of the Divas who WWE clearly has earmarked for success, so losing to Cameron seems very unlikely at this point.

Jack Swagger vs. Rusev

2 of 8

This feud has developed into one of the more interesting programs in WWE at the moment. The tension building between the two powerhouses has been great, but it's been the managers who have made this interesting.

Turing Jack Swagger into a face was the right decision. The crowd has been getting behind him, and it only makes sense to capitalize on that popularity while it's there.

Rusev hasn't been tested too much on the main roster, and this will be his biggest challenge to date and the biggest threat to his undefeated streak.

WWE wouldn't just turn Swagger into a good guy unless it had a plan for him. They could have picked any number of babyfaces to feud with Rusev, but they chose Swagger because the patriotic aspect of his gimmick meshes so well with Rusev and Lana's Russian agenda.

Every streak must come to an end, and Sunday seems like Rusev's time to finally take a loss. I think Swagger and Rusev will put on a great show and surprise a lot of people, but it will be Swagger who has his hand raised in the end.

AJ Lee vs. Paige (Divas Title Match)

3 of 8

WWE's two resident anti-Divas will have their rubber match on Sunday to see who really deserves to be Divas champion.

Paige first debuted on the first Raw after WrestleMania and won the title from AJ. AJ returned a few months later and pulled the same trick on Paige, winning it back and evening the score.

Now it's time for a real match. Their first two bouts were both very short and emphasized the result more than the match itself. It's time for them now to show what they can do in a real title bout.

Paige had a good run as Divas champion, but she needs to prove she can operate on the main roster as a challenger. AJ is going to walk away with her title intact at Battleground, but it will be a hard-fought victory.

Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins

4 of 8

One of the most anticipated matches at Battleground is going to be Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose, and for good reason.

The Shield broke up over a month ago, but this is going to be the first time Ambrose and Rollins will have a real singles match.

The outcome will all come down to how much involvement The Authority has in the match. If it's a clean singles bout, then Dean Ambrose will come away as the winner, but if Kane comes out to lend a hand, we could see Mr. Money in the Bank secure another win.

The reason Ambrose makes more sense to win this match is simply because of booking. Rollins had a big win at the last PPV, so he doesn't need this victory to keep up his momentum. Ambrose needs this victory to get his singles run off to a good start.

Ambrose is the official prediction, but seeing Rollins win due to outside interference in order to extend the feud through to SummerSlam would not be surprising.

The Usos vs. Luke Harper and Erick Rowan (Tag Team Title Match)

5 of 8

The Usos will defend their WWE Tag Team Championships against Luke Harper and Erick Rowan in a 2-out-of-3 Falls match on Sunday.

These two teams have amazing chemistry in the ring, but they have nearly exhausted this feud. The Usos have been good champions, but it's time for someone else to lead the division.

Harper and Rowan are the perfect team to take the titles from The Usos. They are doing more and more without Bray Wyatt at ringside, proving along the way that they don't need him to remain interesting.

Look for this to be a competitive match with new champions emerging when it's all said and done.

Bray Wyatt vs. Chris Jericho

6 of 8

This might be the hardest match on the card to predict. No matter who wins at Battleground, it seems like the feud will probably continue through to SummerSlam.

Cases can be made for either man winning. Chris Jericho is fresh off a surprise return to the company, which might lead a lot of people to believe that he is the odds-on favorite.

However, Bray Wyatt is coming off of two PPV losses in a row. He came up short against John Cena at Payback, and he was not able to retrieve the title at Money in the Bank. He seems due for a win.

Jericho doesn't need to beat Wyatt, but beating Jericho would be a big boost for Wyatt after going a few months without a big win. He will bring home a second victory for The Wyatt Family at Battleground.

Intercontinental Championship Battle Royal

7 of 8

Next to the Jericho vs. Wyatt match, this is the hardest on the card to predict. Twenty men will be competing for the right to call themselves the intercontinental champion, and a lot of them seem like worthy candidates.

If you had asked me who the favorite was two weeks ago, I would have told you Cesaro, but I'm not so sure now. Too many other Superstars seem like viable winners.

Sheamus has talked about unifying the United States and IC titles, Dolph Ziggler has actually been winning matches lately, butCesaro is still a front-runner to win the title.

Then you have the possibility of a surprise outcome that sees someone like Ryback win his first title in WWE or a former champion like Big E regain the championship.

Since I have to pick a winner, I am going to pick Cesaro.

John Cena vs. Roman Reigns vs. Kane vs. Randy Orton (WWE WHC Match)

8 of 8

The main event at Battleground will see John Cena defend the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against three other men in a Fatal 4-Way match that could see Cena lose the title without even being involved in the decision.

Here is the thing: WWE may have let the cat out of the bag by promoting Cena and Lesnar on the SummerSlam poster, which heavily implies that they will be headlining the event in a title match.

It also makes sense for John Cena to win for a few other reasons. He only just won the title last month at MITB, Roman Reigns is not ready for a title reign yet, and both Kane and Randy Orton don't seem like plausible choices to defend against Lesnar at SummerSlam.

If I was a betting man, I would put my money on John Cena retaining the title. What are your predictions for Battleground this Sunday?
