WWE SummerSlam 2012: Shawn Michaels Will Ruin Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar Clash
There should be a rule in the wrestling business that when you have a main event strong enough to stand on its own, you never add more bodies to the mix. Otherwise, it all just becomes clutter you don't need.
WWE, in its infinite wisdom, decided that the best course of action for SummerSlam and the main event between Triple H and Brock Lesnar was to inject Shawn Michaels into the action.
If WWE was just going to use Michaels to further an angle between Lesnar and Triple H, that would have been one thing. For example, having Lesnar lay out Michaels in San Antonio last week would have been great, as long as it was followed by a contract signing this week.

Triple H Responds to Fan Criticism 🤷
Instead, Lesnar didn't touch Michaels last week. Lesnar did just get his hands on Michaels, but it did not do anything to really further the feud between Lesnar and Triple H. That has been the way this whole build has gone, which is to say not good.
Now that we have some idea what will happen this Sunday, it is safe to say that Michaels' inclusion in this match is going to drag it down. I have harped on this issue for weeks and will continue to do so, but the focus has to be on Lesnar and Triple H.
Lesnar and Triple H are the two men wrestling in the match, and theirs is the story that the match should be built around. They are the ones who are selling the tickets, pay-per-views, merchandise, etc. for this show.
Michaels and, to a much lesser extent, Paul Heyman are external forces that don't add anything to the mix. Quite frankly, they are meaningless distractions that will take away from the match.
When you have a main event as big as Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar, you want fans on the edge of their seats, anticipating that every moment could be the end of the match, even if it had just started.
Since we know that nothing can happen until Michaels gets involved, it is going to take away from the story that Lesnar and Triple H are going to try telling. The finish will be exactly as WWE says it should be, instead of what it needs to be.
Michaels is a great performer who can do many things, but his presence in this match is going to hurt a lot more than help.
