WWE WrestleMania 28: Maria Menounos Has Already Earned My Respect
We are only five days away from WrestleMania! The show is this Sunday, and WWE has put together a huge slate of matches.
The world already knows about John Cena vs. The Rock. Everybody is looking forward to the Heck on a Deck match between Triple H and Undertaker. Add in Shawn Michaels, and you have a "must-see" spectacle on your hands.
However, there has been one story this week that needs to be covered. It was a minor revelation, but it holds so much meaning.
It was recently revealed that Maria Menounos suffered two broken ribs.
Being a celebrity already with a full schedule, it would make sense for her to drop out of her tag team match with Kelly Kelly against Eve Torres and Beth Phoenix.
Nobody would fault her. It would be fine, and she could take time to heal up. However, Maria is not just any ordinary celebrity coming in for WrestleMania.
She is dedicated. She is determined. She wants to perform badly, and she will.
The latest update on her condition is, she will be in Miami this Sunday, as she "wouldn't miss it."
That right there tells me a lot more about her character than anything else. Hurt or not, she intends to try her best this weekend for the WWE Universe.
I try and worry about "safety" as much as the next person, but I certainly understand her passion. We saw the same with Mark Henry months ago (who ended up getting hurt again), and even John Cena continued on after a car accident.
Make no mistake, it was a minor incident. However, Cena could have easily taken the night off. Maybe even take the next week or two off?
His huge match with Rocky was already set, so why risk injury? Why compete in a few extra "pointless" matches with such a major main event on the line?
Well, it is simple.
They care about the business.
Nobody will ever doubt the dedication of John Cena or Mark Henry. Now, the same can be said about Maria Menounos.
She has competed in a few WWE matches already and was more than capable. The uproar of her match is just ridiculous (as expected).
The most unsettling thing was my Twitter timeline being filled with "fans" actually celebrating her injury. Is it true there are really "fans" out there happy to see someone injured?
"Hahaha! Maria is hurt, now get her out of the match!"
Some posts were along this sentiment, and it is just sad. The same is often seen with The Great Khali, wishing harm on him. I just can't believe the comments I read some days.
She is fighting through broken ribs to perform (and dance) for all of her fans, and I stand up and applaud the heart of a fighter. Good for her!
I was going to be cheering for her and Kelly this weekend either way. Now, knowing of her desire, fans all around the world have yet another reason to root for them. I know I will.
