WWE Raw Results: Top 10 Moments from Last Night's Show
Honestly, Raw was a fairly average two hours last night. The WWE did not deliver a home-run show for the Red Brand leading into WrestleMania. With no "real" SmackDown this week, we are now looking towards this Sunday night.
Thankfully, the ending segment all but saved WWE and WrestleMania. If I had the grade the entire episode, I would fall in the C range. Why, you ask?
Let's find out!
10. Opening Match
1 of 10In early January, I wrote that Sheamus shouldn't be pinned or submitted until April.
Well, he made it to the end of March before finally taking a pin-fall loss.
Daniel Bryan and Kane defeated Sheamus and Randy Orton in a very nice opener. It is always interesting for wrestling shows to begin with a match.
Both "feuds" got a little bit of attention, and with the faces winning Sunday (as they should), it was key for the heels to look dominant here. The WWE did a nice job with that!
However, the only real question is how quickly Sheamus defeats Bryan for the World Title at WrestleMania. My assumption is less than a minute.
9. Extras
2 of 101. The Atlanta crowd was great last year at WrestleMania. They were loud and represented a nice sized audience.
Last night, I was disappointed.
The arena looked really nice. It is always awesome to see a large group of fans come out to support (pay to see) the WWE. However, they were also very quiet.
2. The newest Lord Tensai video was good. It was something new, and I am looking forward to his first appearance.
3. We saw a backstage segment with Eve Torres and Zack Ryder. Once again, she made him look like a goof ball. Again!
There had better be a nice finish to this story, because Ryder looks dreadful right now. He may not see himself as a "comedy" character, but he certainly looks like it every week.
8. Teddy vs. Johnny
3 of 10Santino Marella defeated David Otunga in a short match.
Both men continue to do a great job out there and are getting some nice spotlight at Mania. I wish them well Sunday as their teams' captains.
Mark Henry also beat The Great Khali in a short match.
It was exactly as you'd expect. Khali did a few powerful moves, while the World Strongest Man picked up yet another win.
I await another brilliant "report" on his lack of push going forward or the laughable face turn that has seemingly been coming since winter. It just never surprises me what some people believe in the WWE.
7. Filler?
4 of 10I don't like the WWE wasting segments right before a PPV event. With it being WrestleMania in just a few days, you would think some things could wait.
Kelly Kelly defeated Eve Torres in a good match. Yes, they are involved in a match Sunday, but nothing was advanced here. Maria Menounos wasn't there, and her status wasn't even mentioned.
It was just a divas match followed up with nothing.
In the same breath, Brodus Clay destroyed Curt Hawkins. That is fine by me, as Cameron and Namoi are always welcome on Raw.
However, Clay wasn't added to Mania, and "Curtis" definitely won't be. Thus, it was a few minutes that could have gone to hype for this Sunday.
6. My "It" Girl
5 of 10Big Show defeated Primo in a short match. He had no problem with the tag champs.
Cody Rhodes did cut an entertaining promo on Show after the match. He has really been on a hot streak with his verbal attacks on Show as of late.
However, was I the only one distracted by Rosa Mendes?
Wow, Booker T was excellent on commentary here. She is just far too distracting for me to care about anything else when she is out there. The attention will always be on her.
Folks, she has the "it" factor!
5. HHH vs. Undertaker Hype
6 of 10We saw plenty of Shawn Michaels last week.
We saw plenty of Triple H last week.
We have probably seen (and heard) too much of Undertaker as well.
Honestly, the match has always been built up very well. If you aren't going to buy the show at this point, nothing is going to convince you. Giving these three one more promo segment won't do anything.
Again, fans hyped up are already paying money Sunday. The rest of the WWE Universe?
Nothing you can do will make them support the WWE.
4. Punk vs. Christian?
7 of 10Well, the match was scheduled to be CM Punk vs. Christian.
That would not last very long. Before the match even began, Chris Jericho appeared and went after Punk's mother this time with words. It seemed to strike a nerve with the WWE Champion, as he took out his frustration on Christian.
Punk beat down Captain Charisma to the point of no return. Their match was thrown out, and WWE quickly announced Christian was off WrestleMania.
Wow, that is two years in a row with Christian not getting a match. Injury or not, that has to be crushing for his beloved fans.
If only Christian returned with an actual purpose...
In the end, it didn't matter. Fans want to see Punk get his hands on Jericho, and they will on Sunday night in Miami.
3. New Members
8 of 10As I wrote about last month, I suspected WWE would find a role for Booker T at WrestleMania. Well, he was added to Team Teddy on Raw. Good for him!
On the flip side, Team Johnny added The Miz and Drew Mcintyre. With Christian out, the team needed two more members.
Miz gets his Mania spot, as most expected. Drew will finally get his opportunity to get rid of Teddy Long, as he has tried to do many times in the past.
From a guy who loves simple logic in WWE, I am more than happy with these announcements.
On a side note, Vickie Guerrero looked amazing last night! This Sunday, it is going to be great to see her, Hornswoggle and my "it" girl, Aksana, ringside in Miami.
2. Once in a Lifetime
9 of 10Before Raw, WWE aired a special one hour show hyping up The Rock vs. John Cena on Sunday night.
It has been said many times, but the production crew working for WWE better be making excellent money. The job they do is top notch and could rival any company in any line of work.
They are that good!
This special highlighted everything about these two men. From their childhood to their beginning in WWE to the current standings in this business!
Anybody who "hates" Rock needs to watch this. Anybody who still (for whatever reason) "hates" Cena needs to watch this. It covers every topic.
They tell you why chanting "Cena sucks" is almost pointless as is buying a "Cena sucks" shirt. So many things were put perfectly, that I couldn't do the message justice.
From those wanting a "Cena heel turn," to asking why Rock is returning to main event...
I highly suggest every wrestling fan watch this!
1. Closing Segment
10 of 10The Rock and John Cena may have just shattered the WrestleMania buy rate record with their promo last night.
The highest buy rate in WWE history is WrestleMania 23 in 2007. The second highest ever was last year's event in Atlanta, Georgia.
With the ending to Raw, the WWE may have just outdone themselves once again. This was masterful work from two of the greatest performers to ever step foot in a wrestling ring.
I have said it before, but I will again. If you are not getting goosebumps just thinking about this Sunday, you may need to check your pulse. This is the type of event fans live for!
The Rock vs. John Cena. Triple H vs. Undertaker. Sheamus vs. Daniel Bryan. Chris Jericho vs. CM Punk. Add in a fun under card, and you have an opportunity for the best WrestleMania show of all time.
Being a very proud paying customer of this business, I am more than ready. Just bring it, WWE!
