Tim Tebow Reportedly Will Be Traded If Peyton Manning Chooses Denver Broncos
The Denver Broncos' pursuit of free-agent quarterback Peyton Manning has come of a bit of surprise to many, but what isn't surprising is that if the Broncos are able to land Manning, then incumbent starter Tim Tebow would reportedly be traded.
According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the Broncos would have no intention of keeping Tebow if they were to sign Manning, and while they wouldn't release the much-maligned lefty, they would make every attempt to trade him.
Tebow is either loved or hated in Denver and across the league, and there is very rarely any middle ground involved. While he only complete 46.5 percent of his passes last season, he did manage to score 18 total touchdowns and lead the Broncos to seven wins in eight games in the middle of the season, which resulted in a playoff berth.
On top of that, Tebow shockingly led the Broncos to an upset of the Pittsburgh Steelers in the playoffs as he threw for 316 yards and a pair of scores. With all of that said, though, Manning is one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time and could make Denver an instant Super Bowl contender thanks to its improving defense and young stable of talented receivers.
There are a lot of questions involved as it is unknown whether Manning will still be able to play at his previous high level. At the same time, there is certainly no guarantee that Tebow will ever become a top quarterback in the league.
Florio is also reporting that the Jacksonville Jaguars, who passed on selecting Tebow a couple years ago, would be in the running to trade for him. That would be a major coup for a floundering organization that needs something to energize the fans.
With teams like the Miami Dolphins and Arizona Cardinals looking like front-runners in the Manning sweepstakes, this may not even become an issue. If it does, though, then it figures to be one of the biggest stories in sports in quite some time.
