2012 NBA Mock Draft: Pick-by-Pick Projections

Matt ShetlerJun 7, 2018

It's time to take a look at our latest NBA mock draft.

With the NCAA regular season close to winding down, the next few weeks and the postseason tournaments are going to be vital for certain players looking to improve their draft status.

Here's a look at who's moved up the big board and who's falling down.

You can also feel free to go back and take a look at where these top prospects stood in last week's mock.

Let's get right to it. The Charlotte Bobcats are on the clock.

1. Charlotte Bobcats: Anthony Davis, Kentucky

1 of 30

Davis is still the clear-cut top pick in the draft.

He plays above the rim at both ends of the floor and will be a dominant NBA post player for years, especially on the defensive end of the floor. He's among the best shot-blockers in NCAA history.

2. New Orleans Hornets: Andre Drummond, Connecticut

2 of 30

Until Drummond makes a definite decision about coming back to school, we have to consider him still coming out.

If it weren't for the dominance of Davis, Drummond would easily be the top pick.

He's also a big man that a franchise could build around, and New Orleans needs one in a big way. Drummond is a physical specimen with an NBA body already. He has too bright of a future for the Hornets to pass on him.

3. Washington Wizards: Harrison Barnes, North Carolina

3 of 30

The Wizards need to get John Wall some weapons and they score big at No. 3 with Barnes, who's a dominant scorer from anywhere on the floor.

His lack of assists and rebounds at the collegiate level is a little troublesome, but his pure scoring ability will translate nicely to the NBA.

4. Detroit Pistons: Jeremy Lamb, Connecticut

4 of 30

Lamb can be a lethal scoring option at the NBA level.

While it was tough to not give the Pistons a big guy here, by selecting Lamb, they have their backcourt intact with Brandon Knight at the point and Lamb at 2-guard.

He's a great athlete that gets after it at the defensive end of the floor as well. Lamb is NBA-ready and the Pistons will have a good young backcourt for years to come.

5. Toronto Raptors: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist

5 of 30

The Raptors need production on the wing and Kidd-Gilchrist is too good of an option to pass on.

He's outstanding defensively and excels at getting to the rim.

His perimeter shot needs some work, but overall Kidd-Gilchrist is the real deal.

6. New Jersey Nets: Thomas Robinson, Kansas

6 of 30

Depending on how the Dwight Howard saga ends up, this could end up being the Orlando Magic's pick, but for now we give the Nets Robinson.

He's been productive at Kansas and will fill a big need for the Nets on the block.

Getting him at No. 6 could turn out to be a steal.

7. Sacramento Kings: Arnett Moultrie, Mississippi State

7 of 30

Moultrie has been the fastest climber on the board since the NCAA season began. Paired with DeMarcus Cousins, he would give the Kings a solid frontcourt.

He's a talented combo forward with excellent size and length and has the offensive skill set to score both inside and outside.

Just another talented young player to add to a good young core in Sacramento.

8. Utah Jazz (via Golden State): Perry Jones, Baylor

8 of 30

Jones is one of the better athletes in the draft and has all the promise in the world.

He hasn't exactly dominated in the fashion that you would have hoped for to this point, but Jones is explosive and has a physical package that few can compare with.

Utah is drafting upside here and Jones is a super athlete with enormous upside.

9. Cleveland Cavaliers: Brad Beal, Florida

9 of 30

Cleveland grabbed two pieces of its future in last season's draft with point guard Kyrie Irving and power forward Tristan Thompson. This time around the Cavs get their 2-guard of the future in Beal.

Beal has good size and a terrific stroke and will be another big piece to a rebuilding Cavs team.

10. Houston Rockets (via New York Knicks): Jared Sullinger, Ohio State

10 of 30

Sullinger slips a bit this week, mostly due to needs from other teams, but could prove to be a steal for Houston at No. 10.

He could wind being the franchise big man the Rockets need.

Sullinger has good size and uses his big frame to create room for his post game, which is NBA-ready. He has great touch finishing above the rim and is a very solid rebounder.

11. Phoenix Suns: Meyers Leonard, Illinois

11 of 30

Even though the Suns' Marcin Gortat is having a big season, it's going to be tough to pass on the seven-footer here.

Leonard is both strong and quick.

He can bang effectively in the block to take advantage of his developing post game, or he can blow right by slower defenders.

Leonard seems to get better by the week and is a legitimate NBA prospect.

12. New Orleans Hornets (via Minnesota): John Henson, North Carolina

12 of 30

By adding Henson to the earlier pick of Drummond, the Hornets have added two potentially dominant frontcourt players to a roster that currently doesn't have one.

Henson's 7'4" wingspan can destroy opposing offenses on the defensive end of the floor.

He's a shot-blocker and a rebounder who plays above the rim.

New Orleans can add backcourt players later on; adding a pair of talented big men in the same draft is an opportunity that doesn't come by very often.

13. Memphis Grizzlies: Austin Rivers, Duke

13 of 30

There has been some talk of Rivers returning to Duke for his sophomore season, but building off his game-winner against North Carolina, we still have him as a lottery pick.

He's a talented 2-guard option with a bright future and would be a great addition to an already talented Grizzlies core.

He's got some work to do when it comes to creating on his own and taking care of the basketball, but you can see the talent is there.

14. Portland Trail Blazers: Cody Zeller, Indiana

14 of 30

The Blazers haven't had success drafting at the center position. With Greg Oden likely not to be back and both Marcus Camby and Kurt Thomas up there in age, this is the perfect opportunity to draft a young, talented big man.

Zeller is a guy who still could return to school, but if he comes out he would be a great fit for Portland.

He needs to get stronger and become more physical, but he's a very skilled finisher around the rim and runs the floor very well.

15. Milwaukee Bucks: Terrence Ross, Washington

15 of 30

Brandon Jennings could use a backcourt mate and chances are that the Bucks would do anything not to have Stephen Jackson around much longer, so Ross is a nice pick here.

Ross is a pure scorer who fills a need for Milwaukee.

16. Minnesota Timberwolves (via Utah): Doron Lamb, Kentucky

16 of 30

Lamb gives Wolves head coach Rick Adelman another good athlete and another scoring option.

He's a crafty scorer that can be assassin-like at times. Lamb has the ability to take a game over with an excellent mid-range game, an improved long-distance attack and the ability to get to the rim with either hand.

17. Los Angeles Lakers: Kendall Marshall, North Carolina

17 of 30

The Lakers' desperate need for a point guard is solved after Marshall falls to them.

He's a brilliant floor general who has the ability to make his teammates better. Marshall also possesses a high basketball IQ and fantastic court vision.

He's a steal this late in the draft.

18. New Jersey Nets (via Houston): Terrence Jones, Kentucky

18 of 30

The Nets can choose to take this pick from the Rockets this season or wait for a future year, but we're giving it to them now and giving them a solid wing player in Jones.

His offensive game is not limited, as he can score in a variety of ways. The Nets need talented scorers and Jones fits the bill in a big way.

19. Denver Nuggets: Tyler Zeller, North Carolina

19 of 30

Zeller goes to Denver to give them even more frontcourt depth.

He has a good low-post game with a nice right-handed hook shot he uses as his go-to move.

He's going to need to get stronger, but he's still a solid prospect that's going to help out an NBA team.

20. Los Angeles Lakers (via Dallas): Kris Joseph, Syracuse

20 of 30

We might be reaching a bit on Joseph at No. 20, but we filled the Lakers' need for a point guard already and they desperately need guys that can play the wing.

Joseph is a great athlete who has the knack for making something happen all of the time.

He's an explosive, high-energy player with a long wingspan that could be perfect for Lakers head coach Mike Brown, especially on the defensive end of the floor.

21. Boston Celtics: Fab Melo, Syracuse

21 of 30

Melo fills a need for Boston, which desperately needs size and production down low.

He's got great length and very good footwork for a young guy. Melo gets good position, is an excellent passer and has a mid-range jumper that could become a weapon at the NBA level.

22. Orlando Magic: Dion Waiters, Syracuse

22 of 30

Waiters becomes the third straight Syracuse player off the board and should be a good fit in Orlando.

The Magic need young players to build around and Waiters gives them a solid combo guard who can play both on and off the ball.

He has NBA range on his shot and is athletic enough to break down defenders.

Waiters probably isn't a point guard in the NBA, but will be a valuable playmaker.

23. Boston Celtics (via Los Angeles Clippers): Tony Wroten, Washington

23 of 30

Wroten gives the Celtics a solid combo guard who has an outstanding offensive game.

He's an excellent passer and can finish both with explosiveness and a solid finesse game.

Wroten's a good athlete who's an above-average rebounding guard and solid on the defensive end of the floor.

24. Atlanta Hawks: Patric Young, Florida

24 of 30

The Hawks could use another talented big body right now, but they can help themselves in the future by selecting Young.

He's got an NBA body and tremendous leaping ability. His potential could be off the charts.

25. San Antonio Spurs: Marquis Teague, Kentucky

25 of 30

Another Kentucky product off the board as the Spurs get a solid guard in Teague. They are going to need a replacement for Tony Parker eventually, so now's as good a time as any to get one.

He's a great athlete with a tremendous first step.

Teague is able to score as easily as he can set up his teammates. He's a solid point guard prospect with a bright future ahead of him.

26. Indiana Pacers: John Jenkins, Vanderbilt

26 of 30

The Pacers could use a shooter and Jenkins can stroke it in the mold of a J.J. Redick.

Jenkins excels at shooting the ball, with a quick release and an effortless shooting motion. He can spot up or pull up off the dribble equally effectively and could be a nice depth piece behind Paul George.

27. Philadelphia 76ers: Mason Plumlee, Duke

27 of 30

Solid athlete with a nice fluidity to his game who has good leaping skills and explosiveness. The only drawback is that he's never been very dominant at Duke.

He's still a good enough athlete to be a solid NBA prospect.

28. Miami Heat: William Buford, Ohio State

28 of 30

Miami's just drafting for depth and adding a guy in Buford, who's an athletic 2-guard with good size and length.

He can be explosive at times and has a good shot, but needs to improve at putting the ball on the deck.

29. Chicago Bulls: Kevin Jones, West Virginia

29 of 30

Jones is a decent athlete that should provide frontcourt depth for the Bulls.

He's quicker than he looks and is a very good rebounder, especially on the offensive end. He should be a more dominant collegiate player, which is a concern due to the fact that he can disappear for long stretches at a time, but he should still be a solid enough NBA player.

30. Oklahoma City Thunder: Damian Lillard, Weber State

30 of 30

Sometimes guys slip in the draft and that's happened to Lillard this week, mostly because of other teams drafting for needs.

We have Oklahoma City taking the best available player on the board. With backup point guard Eric Maynor coming back from a serious knee injury, it can't hurt to take a flier on another talented guard.
