2012 NBA Mock Draft: Projecting Entire First Round
Some NBA teams have a Championship run to look forward to. Others only have the draft lottery and a potential high lottery pick to look forward to.
With the college basketball season really heating up, it's a perfect chance to take a look at our latest mock draft.
Let's get right into it as the Charlotte Bobcats are on the clock.
1. Charlotte Bobcats; Anthony Davis, Kentucky: The miserable Bobcats are in desperate need of a franchise player. Davis is a beast and a superb athlete that can dominate the paint at both ends of the floor for years in the NBA.
2. Detroit Pistons; Harrison Barnes, North Carolina: The Pistons have some young pieces in place with Greg Monroe and Brandon Knight. They can get another big part of their future with Barnes at No. 2. The offensive talent of Barnes should translate instantly to the NBA level and he could be a star for years.
3. Washington Wizards; Jeremy Lamb, Connecticut: John Wall needs some weapons around him and Lamb could help solidify the Washington backcourt. He is a lethal scoring option and has a ton of athleticism and promise.
4. New Orleans Hornets; Andre Drummond, Connecticut: Drummond has an NBA body and will be feared in the paint at both ends of the floor. While Detroit and Washington already have young big men in place, the Hornets are in the middle of a total rebuild and can't pass on a potentially dominant big man here.
5. Sacramento Kings; Jared Sullinger, Ohio State: A future frontcount of Sullinger and DeMarcus Cousins would be exciting for Kings fans to pair with their already talented young backcourt.
6. Toronto Raptors; Thomas Robinson, Kansas: Toronto simply can't pass on Robinson here. Getting him at No. 6 could end up being the steal of the draft.
7. New Jersey Nets; Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Kentucky: This pick could likely be dealt if the Nets acquire Dwight Howard, but for now it's theirs and they have a lot of needs. The Nets fill a need here at small forward as Kidd-Gilchrist is proving to be the real deal during his freshman season at Kentucky.
8. Utah Jazz (via Golden State); Brad Beal, Florida: The Jazz have a loaded frontcort, now they need the young backcourt to match it. Beal could turn out to be the shooter Utah desperately needs.
9. Phoenix Suns; Arnett Moultrie, Mississippi State: Sometimes guys fall for one reason or another, but the Suns would be wise not to allow Moultrie to fall any lower then No. 9. He is NBA ready and a dominant rebounder, something the Suns really could use.
10. Houston Rockets (via New York); Meyers Leonard, Illinois: By draft day, Leonard could sneak his way up the board even more, but he would be the perfect fit for Houston, who could use a dominant big man, at No. 10.
11. Cleveland Cavaliers; Perry Jones, Baylor: By the time the Cavs are on the clock, it is time to draft the best available player. Jones, though, is a guy that has slipped a few spots and will also help the Cavs fill a need. He is an absolute steal at No. 11.
12. New Orleans Hornets (via Minnesota through Clippers); John Henson, North Carolina: This draft could be the perfect opportunity for the Hornets to solidify their frontcount for years to come. Henson paired with Drummond will do that. They can always add backcourt players later on.
13. Memphis Grizzlies; Terrence Ross, Washington: The Grizzlies have a nice young core. All they are really missing is a quality 2-guard. Ross is a pure scorer who will fill that need for the Grizzlies.
14. Houston Rockets; Doron Lamb, Kentucky: This pick will become New Jersey's if it falls out of the top 14, so it could change slightly as I would have New Jersey likely taking a big man here. Since I did that already for Houston, they get the best available on the board with this pick. Right now that is Lamb, who will give them another athlete and scorer.
15. Milwaukee Bucks; Tyler Zeller, North Carolina: Zeller gives the Bucks a much-needed big man that could form a solid one-two punch with point guard Brandon Jennings, who is on his way to becoming a superstar.
16. Boston Celtics; Fab Melo, Syracuse: Boston could be reaching a bit on Melo at 16, but they need frontcourt help badly and Melo has a ton of promise. At seven-feet-tall, Melo can block shots with the best of them and his offensive game is coming along quite nicely.
17. Orlando Magic: Kendall Marshall, North Carolina: The Magic will have some holes to fill before next season, but assuming they get a big man in any possible Howard deal, they could look at their point guard of the future here. There are several possibilities on the board at this point, but Marshall could be too good to pass up.
18. Portland Trail Blazers: Dion Waiters, Syracuse: He has improved a great deal from his freshman to sophomore season and could be a good fit here for Portland. He can play either guard spot and add some extra scoring punch.
19. Los Angeles Lakers; Troy Wrotten, Washington: The Lakers need young productive guards badly and Wrotten could be a great fit if he decides to enter the draft after his freshman season at Washington. He can be a lethal scorer and could be the point guard the Lakers are looking for.
20. Minnesota Timberwolves (via Utah); Terrence Jones, Kentucky: Another Kentucky player off the board as the Timberwolves add another talented young player to their already talented core. Jones gives the Wolves a talented wing player with promise for the future.
21. San Antonio Spurs; Marquis Teague, Kentucky: Back-to-back Wildcats off the board. Tony Parker isn't getting any younger and the Spurs are going to need their point guard of the future.
22. Los Angeles Lakers (via Dallas); Kris Joseph, Syracuse: Joseph also fills a need for the Lakers, providing an athletic scorer on the wing.
23. Denver Nuggets; Patric Young, Florida: Denver is very deep right now and can go the best available route. Adding another big man such as Young makes the Nuggets even deeper.
24. Boston Celtics (via Clippers); John Jenkins, Vanderbilt: Ray Allen's contract is up after this season and the Celtics need to find their next shooting guard. They can't go wrong with Jenkins here.
25. Indiana Pacers: Damian Lillard, Weber State: Indiana goes with the best available player on the board at this point. Lillard is a good grab this late and gives them some backcourt depth.
26. Atlanta Hawks; William Buford, Ohio State: The Hawks get a mature shooting guard here who should fit in nicely in their rotation.
27. Philadelphia 76ers; Mason Plumlee, Duke: The 76ers have a good young core and drafting this late, they will be looking to simply add depth for the following season. Plumlee gives them a big body that can play defense and rebound.
28. Miami Heat; Kevin Jones, West Virginia: Jones is a good athlete for the Heat this late in the draft. Miami isn't drafting on need here so they take the best on the board.
29 Chicago Bulls; Draymond Green, Michigan State: Solid pick this late, as Green can either play the 3 or the 4.
30. Oklahoma City Thunder; Jeffery Taylor, Vanderbilt: Taylor is a very smooth player who has great athleticism and leaping ability. Just another weapon for the Thunder.
