Brian Schottenheimer to Become St. Louis Rams Offensive Coordinator
The St. Louis Rams have added their first major coach to Jeff Fisher's staff with the news that Brian Schottenheimer is set to join the team as its offensive coordinator. The deal will be official following the finalization of the contract.
Schottenheimer spent the last six seasons as the New York Jets' OC, going to two AFC Championship Games during his tenure, both under current head coach Rex Ryan.
Schotty's troubles in New York have been well chronicled as quarterback Mark Sanchez hasn't panned out, and as a result some of the blame has been passed his way. On top of that, the Jets' abysmal running game and Sanchez's disappointing play resulted in Gang Green missing the playoffs this season.

Chiefs Could Trade Up in Draft
The Rams have had their own problems with a third-year franchise quarterback named Sam Bradford. The shaky ground Bradford is on makes the incoming Schottenheimer's negative past with a young quarterback a potentially scary future for the Rams.
Bradford and the Rams' offense made it commonplace to throw a lot of short passes, and whether it was because of constant pressure or just an inability to do so, St. Louis' passing game couldn't go downfield.
If you're a Jets fan, that scenario sounds familiar since Schottenheimer has roamed their sidelines.
As long as the Rams sign Brandon Lloyd and land Justin Blackmon in the 2012 NFL Draft, Schotty won't have a choice but to take shots downfield to make some big plays happen.
Living in New York and being able to follow the Jets like I do every week, I've witnessed some bad playcalling in big spots by Schottenheimer, and he would have been my last choice to fill this vacancy.
But sometimes it's players that make an offensive coordinator and not the other way around. For the sake of the Rams' future, let's hope that's the case in this instance as well.
