WWE Raw Results: Top 10 Moments from Last Night's Slammy Awards
WWE Raw was a great show last night.Ā TheĀ 2011Ā Slammy AwardsĀ featured so many memorable moments that it may deserve its own show next week!
I enjoyed a lot about Raw, but there was one major flaw. WWE once again did not give proper attention to a PPV show that is now only a few days away. As a standalone show, I would grade it an A! AsĀ a go-home show to the final PPV event of the year, I will grade it a B+.
10. A Night of Returns
1 of 10Tons of names returned to WWE last night. Here are a few I will touch on right now:
Rey Mysterio: It was nice to see him. He looked great, and I look forward to his return to the ring!
Christian: This was pretty cool. I understand it is his gimmick, but the "one more match" line needs to go. I have already made it very clear. He will never be World Champion again, but that doesn't mean he has to act like a comedy figure. He is a wonderful talent.
Lita: I enjoyed seeing her. She is always welcome back to WWE. Her time with the divas last night givingĀ a Slammy to Kelly KellyĀ was fun!
Ted DiBiase Sr. and Mick Foley: These two interacted well. Now is not the time for Foley to return to the ring, but when he does, I really hope he is a "serious" character.
Road Dogg: The best part of this entire segment was that the crowd seemed to remember him. That is always nice to see. He looked good, and I wish him a happy holiday.
9. Snooki Wins!
2 of 10Snooki won a Slammy Award, and I loved it. She praised the WWE, Vince and plugged her show. Kudos to her for filming an acceptance speech and being a professional!
As I wrote about in the past, I believed Snooki was not done with WWE. In my opinion, she will appear again. Snooki was on last night, and I doubt that is the last time we see her...
Snooki also said on her Twitter account that she will be WWE Diva's Champion one day. Sounds like great news to me!
8. Opening Segment
3 of 10What a beginning to WWE Raw!
Booker T's music is always nice to hear on a WWE show. Major props to Hornswoggle getting some time to speak. He did a great job, as expected!
The entire mess with Jim Ross and Michael Cole was entertaining. I felt bad for JR, but that was pretty much the point. Cole got some heat, and the fans were into every second! Good start...
7. The Future Looks Bright
4 of 10Zack Ryder vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Cody Rhodes vs. Daniel Bryan was an amazing match. This four-way was filler, but it was great filler!
All four men put on great performances. Vickie at ringside also played her part. All I could think of while watching this match was how great the future of WWE looked.
Dolph had another nice night. Cody continues to improve. Daniel played his underdog role well (and is nowhere near the main event). Finally, Zack was good last night. He was not goofing around and acted like a serious threat inside the ring.
No comedy. No jokes. No nonsense. Just a great four-way won by Ziggler.
6. Triple H's Promo
5 of 10Triple H returned to WWE Raw and looked ready for revenge on Kevin Nash. I like the appearance before the PPV on Sunday, but one thing did catch my attention.
He teased a match with Undertaker. Just like he did the day after WrestleMania 27 earlier this year.
It has always been my assumption that we will see Triple H vs. Undertaker at WrestleMania 28 one more time. Last night sure did hint that way...
5. Miz and Del Rio vs. Orton and Punk
6 of 10This was some solid hype for WWE TLC on Sunday. The Miz and Alberto Del Rio taking on Randy Orton and CM Punk. The heels beat down CM Punk, and Miz got a pinfall victory over the champion.
With Punk all but guaranteed to retain, this was nice for the heels to get some steam going forward. Throw in some Randy Orton and Wade Barrett interactions! Good segment here from WWE.
4. Control
7 of 10We all saw yet another vignette teasing a major star returning to WWE on January 2nd, 2012. I enjoyed it, but I must repeat what I have been saying all along.
The "clues" in the videos mean nothing.
They don't. You can look at the "age" of the Youtube user. You can listen to the background music. You can think of a female-male pair in WWE. Do whatever you want!
None of it all adds up to one thing. My guess remains Chris Jericho, Undertaker as a close second or a long shot of Batista, and I don't need any teaser videos to predict that.
3. Tony Atlas Is the Man
8 of 10This was classic. Tony Atlas and David Otunga were the best presenters last night. Hands down, Tony Atlas was the best starĀ who returnedĀ at the Slammy Awards!
Otunga is doing such a great job, right? Atlas doing his "laugh" had me in tears crying on the floor. He has perfect delivery, and the segment was hilarious!
Tony Atlas was great with Mark Henry years ago. He was even better last night. For the minute or so he was on, he made the most of his time and stood out above the rest! Big shout out to Tony Atlas!
2. Emotional Moment of the Night
9 of 10Watch the first minute or so of the video I posted!
If that doesn't warm your heart, I don't know what will. It was the teary-eyed moment of the evening, but it was such a nice thing to do. WWE gets tons of backlash from every which way, but there is nothing that can take away from actions like that.
Classy move. Thank you WWE!
1. The Final Segment
10 of 10There is a lot to cover here, so let my break it down. Here we go:
1. Mark Henry is still the best man on WWE TV. How many guys dominate John Cena like he did? Exactly. He once again proved why he is NEVER, ever losing his World title!
2. Cena had a great promo on The Rock earlier, but his match here was excellent. With no opponent (for now) at TLC, he had to go all out here, and he did! Very nice battle from two legends.
3. Kane's return wasĀ handled perfectly. Even with his promos airing, nobody saw it coming, and he looked to be in great shape. Awesome momentĀ to closeĀ WWE Raw!
4. As for his ring attire? I certainly did not like his "welder mask." That looked dreadful. You want to know why I am skeptical on him returning to hisĀ former self? That is why.
5. He looked great with the hair extensions connected to his mask, and it looked like he will be playing a heel. I wrote about that a few days ago. There is no reason for him to challenge Henry or seek revenge. Why? He is not winning the World title, so it would be a waste. Big Show is doing the exact same story right now anyways. Keep Kane busy with Cena for a month or two. That is fine!
My concerns? Yes, it is cool...now. How long will the "intrigue" last? How many weeks until the "nostalgia" wears off? How long until he is back in the mid card playing a face and talking regularly?
I am OK with him returning as a masked villain, as long as it is a short run for "old time's sake."
REMINDER: I am now on Twitter @JustinWatry! I give every new follower a special shout out, so do not be shy...thanks.
