Andrew Luck: Colts Owner Jim Irsay Tweets Cryptic Message About Drafting QB

Donald WoodNov 27, 2011

The Indianapolis Colts are in the hunt for both their first win of the season and the No. 1 overall draft pick in the 2012 NFL draft. I’m sure they would rather have the latter over the former.

Don’t think for one second that Colts owner Jim Irsay didn’t see that coincidence when he sent out a cryptic tweet this morning that has the NFL world abuzz.

Over the weeks, Irsay and the Indianapolis Colts have been non-committal to taking Andrew Luck if they get the No. 1 overall pick in the draft. Judging from this tweet, the idea may be blossoming in Irsay’s wild mind.

While this may feel odd to the Colts organization at first, drafting Andrew Luck at No. 1 is the right thing to do. Peyton Manning is on the mend, but his career is likely not over.

The Indianapolis Colts should hope to get another two years out of their star quarterback Manning. During that time, like Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers, Andrew Luck could learn under one of the most meticulous QBs in NFL history.

If you are in the Colts' position here, you couldn’t have asked for a better opportunity. The first down season in years and the prize you win for sucking is Andrew Luck? That’s good luck!

Luck already runs a pro-style offense at Stanford, but the kind of training he will get from Manning and the Colts' offensive coaches will be unlike anything he has ever experienced.

After two seasons waiting his turn to be the starter, the Colts will have to let Manning go to another team and finish his career. As hard as that is to imagine, from Brett Favre to Johnny Unitas, most great quarterbacks finish their career elsewhere.

Peyton Manning was the Colts for a long time. There is nothing that will keep Andrew Luck from achieving as much or more success than Manning if he too becomes a Colt.
