NBA Trade Rumors: Why Steve Nash Is Better Fit with Knicks Than Heat

Patrick ClarkeNov 26, 2011

Phoenix Suns point guard Steve Nash would no doubt find the best new fit in the Big Apple playing alongside former desert teammate Amar'e Stoudemire than in South Beach with LeBron James and company.

Although the Canadian assist man is desperately needed in Miami, considering the Heat were forced to stand around and watch James or Dwyane Wade create when things got stagnant in the fourth quarter of the Finals, Nash is still the man for the New York Knicks.

With all due respect to veteran Chauncey Billups, he isn't the type of point guard the Knicks need at this stage in the game.

New York needs a guy like Nash who can probe the defense possession after possession and get the Knicks a solid look every time down the floor, even in the half court.

Billups is a clutch, scoring point guard and always has been. Last season he averaged 16.8 points and just 5.4 assists per game. Compare that to Nash's 11.4 apg and it's clear who's the better facilitator.

Also, the Knicks have two superstar scorers in Stoudemire (25.3 ppg) and Carmelo Anthony (26.3 ppg). Nash is already incredibly comfortable with Stoudemire having played with him for years in Phoenix, and Anthony would soon fit right in like countless players have alongside Nash.

The Knicks wouldn't improve defensively, but they would become the most lethal and efficient offenses in the NBA under Nash's steady right and left hands.

The two-time MVP can shoot from anywhere on the floor as well as any baller in league history, and his constant threat of shooting, passing and keeping the dribble alive is still present at age 37.

The loss of Raymond Felton hurt the Knicks in the teamwork department, and Nash is more than a solution to that problem.

In Miami, Nash would be creating for Chris Bosh, who wanders from the basket and the paint a little too often.

In New York, Nash would be playing fast break basketball under the very head coach that brought him onto the scene back in 2004 with the Suns, Mike D'Antoni.

He could feed Stoudemire on the baseline, or Anthony anywhere on the floor. New York is the perfect scenario for an aging Nash to take a few more shots at the elusive Larry O'Brien Trophy.
