Penn State Sex Scandal: Students Rally to Support Joe Pa, Rip Media
Despite horrific allegations that Penn State coach Joe Paterno turned the other cheek when told about a 10-year-old getting sodomized in the shower, there is still plenty of JoePa fans willing to stick up for the 84-year-old.
He cancelled a press conference on Tuesday that was supposed to shed light on this incredibly horrifying story.
After going with the “no comment” routine all day, finally Paterno caved in when he returned to his home, a modest sized house that is roughly a half-mile off campus. There were scores of supporters chanting his name and the Penn State fight song according to Daily Collegian football writer Joe McIntyre.

JoePa emerged from the window on the upper level of his house to give his fans a message:
"We’re always going to be Penn State, regardless of what happens to certain people. We’re Penn State. I’m proud of you. I’ve always been proud of you. Cheer our football team on Saturday, alright? Beat Nebraska.
We’ve had some criticism of how we’ve handled some of the poor victims. My wife and I, we have 17 grandkids from 16 to 3 and we pray for them every night. And we’re going to start praying for those kids who got involved in some of those problems we’re talked about. They don’t deserve it. We owe it to them to say a prayer for them. And make sure they understand that their life is one that can be enriched, one hat they can make a significant impact on other people and do a lot of different things, as all of you can. So god bless everybody.
"
Clearly he has a large support group, and fans even had a message for the media camped out in State College, according to McIntyre:
In reality, there is one sentience that stands out. When he says, “we’re going to start praying for those kids who got involved in some of those problems” it makes you realize why JoePa needs to go.
These kids have been grieving for years, and in some cases DECADES. So when he says “we” (which means he includes himself), is only beginning to pray for them now, clearly he doesn’t get it.
It’s painfully obvious that Paterno doesn’t understand that he could have prevented future damage to kids by TURNING IN JERRY SANDUSKY BACK IN 2002.
Instead, he spends time talking about a football game.
Of course a man that has been a fixture in Happy Valley since 1966 is going to have plenty of supporters, regardless of the allegations against him. Yet, it’s impossible to overlook the grave lack of urgency when Paterno was told about the incident.
It’s impossible to ignore the fact that Sandusky was allowed to be around kids for years after the 2002 incident.
It’s impossible to ignore this fact as well: Regardless of all of the fan' support, Paterno is going to re-sign or be fired in the next week.
