Robin Van Persie's Hat Trick a Preview for the Rest of the Season

Raul HingoraniOct 29, 2011

Oct. 29 is a day that Robin Van Persie will remember for the rest of the season. He led the Gunners to a phenomenal away win versus Chelsea.

He scored a marvelous hat trick in the 5-3 demolition derby ( a view on the match: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/916548-arsenal-5-3-chelsea-a-turning-point-in-the-gunners-season).

He was extremely key to the win, and this could just be foreshadowing even more from the Dutchman. He has already had some good performances, but this one is the stepping stone to much more.

Before this inspiring win, Arsenal seemed pretty much out of luck for the rest of the season. They conceded eight goals in a 8-2 crushing of Arsenal by Manchester United.

Basically, it had the opposite effect on the players and fans than the Chelsea win. Robin happened to score in that match, but his goal didn't have much of an effect on his teammates.

Losses like the Manchester one could only lead to worse outcomes. There are teams like Manchester City and Liverpool who can send Arsenal to the dumps. This Chelsea win happened because each player stepped up.

The defense tried their best to hold up Chelsea's attack, but they conceded three goals. So, Arsenal's attack made up for that by scoring five.

With Robin being the captain, his hat trick will be inspiring to all the players, hence it will push them to perform better. That will produce better results. In a way, based on that, the success of the team relies on Robin's success.

If one player performs well, it usually has a chain reaction, and that is what happened in the Chelsea game. So if Robin can consistently produce performances like the one against Chelsea, then victories could come for the team.

With their Champions League match against Marseille at the Emirates, Robin has a chance to put this experiment to the test. Last time they met, in France, Arsenal prevailed as a result of a late goal.

I am sure that Arsenal will pull away a victory over the French team not only because they are at home, but because Robin is on a scoring spree, and I'm sure that his name will be in the books of this match.

Apart from that match, Robin will have many more tests as a captain, where he will have to put his leadership skills to the test, along with his own tricks( a view on his captaincy: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/837083-arsenal-fc-will-rvps-heroics-be-enough-to-lead-a-vulnerable-gunners-side).

They will face the Manchester teams, their main rivals, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool. Those won't be any easier than their victory against Chelsea.

Their defense would be exploited by all these teams, and that's why it will be crucial that Robin successfully leads the Arsenal attack and ensures that goals are scored. It is evident that Arsenal's defense lacks the toughness that many other defenses have.

That is where Arsenal absolutely must make up on the attack. That is the reason they beat Chelsea; they were able to convert more goal opportunities than Chelsea.

Offense will be key for Arsenal to win games, and Robin's skills will be a huge factor in Arsenal's offense.
