Arsenal vs. Chelsea: 5-3 Win a Turning Point in the Gunners' Season
October 29th is now a date that each Gunner will remember throughout this season, the day they took Chelsea to the dumpster.
Arsenal defied all, putting in a marvelous performance in a 5-3 annihilation of Chelsea. The Arsenal captain, Robin van Persie, scored a hat trick to propel them to this win. Despite a horrendous start to the season, I can see Arsenal turning it around.
In the match at Stamford Bridge, both teams' defense had gaping holes for the attackers to exploit, but it was Arsenal who was able to make the most of them. They might have won, but this still proves that their defense needs improvement. The fact that they scored five goals is definitely reassuring. Their defense will improve with time, and their attack has not lost its main essence.
Arsenal are yet to play even better teams, so they must use this win as a trampoline to push them to even more wins. Their next meeting is against West Bromwich Albion, a team who has hurt the Gunners last season, defeating the Gunners 3-2 and drawing with them 2-2. Honestly, with the problems in their defense, I could see Arsenal conceding a goal or two, but their attack is just going to be too much for their adversary.
There are still teams like Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham and Manchester United who still pose threats to Arsenal, but the fact that they beat a team of Chelsea's stature is going to aid Arsenal when facing off against these teams.
Manchester City is probably going to be the biggest danger to Arsenal because of their plethora of attacking talent. With the likes of Sergio Agüero, Edin Dzeko, Samir Nasri and David Silva, Arsenal definitely will be worried.
Their attack surely would take advantage of Arsenal's weak defense, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Arsenal score as well. Chelsea's defense seemed dazzled, or distracted in a way, while Manchester City's defense certainly looks to be in a better state. So this match would definitely be a test of what Arsenal pulled away from their Chelsea match.
Last season, Arsenal beat City 3-0, and drew with them 0-0. But at that time, Arsenal still had Samir Nasri and Cesc Fábregas; in fact, Nasri scored against City in the 3-0 win. So it would definitely be interesting to see how Arsenal will manage the Blues after their 5-3 win, with Nasri on the opposition.
After facing Manchester United earlier, I'm sure the Gunners will be dreading their next encounter. But this victory surely must give this team some hope. I still think that Manchester United will prevail, but it should definitely be much closer. They might even draw.
Ultimately, all teams should fear Arsenal after their fantastic display at The Bridge. Arsenal can still be defeated, but it would definitely take extra work to overcome this team. Opponents might be able to score easily, but defending Arsenal's attack will be harder. Their crushing win will make each player more confident for many matches to come, and this could be a huge turning point in their season. Who knows, they could even go on a rampage of wins.
So do you think this win is a turning point in Arsenal's season?
