Bibi Jones Controversy Will Be Forgotten When New England Patriots Top Steelers

Michael DixonOct 29, 2011

The NFL's game of the week has plenty of controversy around it. But this isn't coming from any trash talk or anything that you would tend to expect from a possible playoff preview.

No, this centers around New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowki's pictures with adult film star Bibi Jones, like the one seen here from ESPN and LZ Granderson.

We all have our own opinions on the matter, which is fine. I think the controversy is completely overblown. Athletes are allowed to have personal lives—whether they honor what we would do in our own lives or not is irrelevant.

However, this all came out at the worst possible time for Gronkowski—in a week where the Patriots were off, with no football to talk about. So, one of its better players in a situation like this is going to grab attention, like it or not.

This is a big week for the Patriots. If they can march into Pittsburgh, beat the Steelers, and move to 6-1, then this controversy is nothing more than a sidenote.

Fortunately for the Patriots, they will do just that.

Without James Harrison in Mike Tomlin's lineup, I just don't see how the Steelers can consistently pressure Tom Brady without bringing the blitz. Moreover, when you blitz Brady, it is taxing and tough on your secondary.

So, what will all this do?

Well, assuming I am right and the Patriots win, then Bibi Jones just wasn't much of a distraction, was she? Honestly, even if I am wrong, Bibi Jones will have as much to do with the result of the game as the guy selling hot dogs at Heinz Field.

But that's not necessarily how people think; it's all presumptuous so I can't prove anything, but a loss from the Patriots will have people questioning whether or not Rob Gronkowski's pictures had anything to do with it.

But with a win, the controversy is irrelevant—it clearly didn't hurt the team.

And that's what we're going to see tomorrow.
