Week 8 Fantasy Football Rankings: LeSean McCoy and 5 Players Sure to Flop
It's tough to swallow your pride and bench your superstar, especially when even the most inconsistent ones can explode for monster days out of nowhere as Arian Foster did last week.
Even so, there are five players who are going to generate no points this week due to their horrific matchups.
Do yourself a favor and let them ride pine this week so you aren't stuck with a fantasy dud hogging a roster spot while someone on your bench lights up his opponent.
Here are five players sure to flop this week.
Peyton Hillis
1 of 5Things have gone from bad to worse for Peyton Hillis. He has only 211 yards on the season; he's been sick, banged up and his hamstring has him questionable for this week.
Hillis isn't a must start regardless of who he is playing or what his hamstring looks like. He's been grossly disappointing thus far and to make matters worse, he's going up against Patrick Willis and the 49ers' No. 2 ranked run defense.
It's going to be another awful week for Hillis and another devastating blow to Hillis owners who likely drafted him in the second or third round.
Cam Newton
2 of 5Cam Newton has solidified himself as a legitimate fantasy quarterback, but he's thrown three picks and just one touchdown in his last two outings.
While the Vikings allow 274.9 YPG through the air, Newton is going to be running for his life this week. Minnesota has the most sacks in the league with 21 and though Newton isn't easy to bring down, Jared Allen has an absurd 11.5 sacks thus far.
Philip Rivers
3 of 5Philip Rivers is having a disappointing season to say the least. He had monster games against the Patriots' horrific pass defense and the worthless Dolphins which inflated his stats. With seven touchdowns and nine interceptions, it's hard to understand what's going on with Rivers this season.
He threw two picks and no touchdowns against Kansas City the first time they faced off in Week 3. This time around they square off at Arrowhead on Monday night.
Expect Rivers to struggle once more in a losing effort in front of a hostile crowd.
LeSean McCoy
4 of 5LeSean McCoy is one of the best home run hitters in football. He's the sort of back who can take any carry to the house and contributes in the passing game.
The problem is that he's up against the best run defense in the league this week. McCoy isn't immune to tanking against stout run defenses—Rob Ryan and the Cowboys are going to have his number.
He had a pathetic 18 yards on nine carries and just 34 receiving yards Week 4 against the 49ers. The Cowboys have the tools to enjoy similar success.
Vernon Davis
5 of 5Frank Gore is going to rip the Browns apart, but don't expect the 49ers' pass game to flourish. Cleveland has the No. 1 pass defense in the NFL and Vernon Davis' day will resemble the eight-yard performance he put forth last week against the Lions.
With Braylon Edwards expecting to return this week, there will be even more targets on the field for Alex Smith to get the ball to.
Back-up RB Kendall Hunter will outscore Davis this week. San Francisco has developed a dangerous rushing attack and with the matchup in front of them, Davis will be pushed to the wayside.
