UFC 136 Results: Kenny Florian and 10 Best Fighters to Never Wear UFC Gold
On Saturday night, two fighters may have had their last chances at a UFC title.
First, Kenny Florian lost his third title fight overall, as he dropped a unanimous decision to Jose Aldo.
Then, in the fight immediately after, Gray Maynard lost the third fight in his trilogy with Frankie Edgar.
Florian will probably never get another title shot, but Maynard still has a chance.
In the meantime, let's take a look at Kenny Florian, Gray Maynard, and the ten best fighters to never wear UFC gold.
Kenny Florian
1 of 10Kenny Florian has been called a "choke artist" by UFC President, Dana White.
In his career, he has lost five very important fights. One to become The Ultimate Fighter season 1 winner, one for the lightweight championship, a second one for the lightweight championship, a lightweight championship title eliminator, and then his fight for the featherweight title this past Saturday night.
That was likely Florian's last shot at ever holding UFC gold.
He'll go down as one of the best to never win a belt.
Gray Maynard
2 of 10Gray Maynard could easily fight for a title again in his UFC career.
However, Dana White said that there will not be an Edgar-Maynard IV, so make of that what you will.
If Edgar keeps the title, it looks like Maynard will not be fighting for it ever again.
Jon Fitch
3 of 10I bet nobody is really surprised to see Fitch on this list. But you'll be surprised why he's on here.
It's not because he doesn't have the talent and ability to beat GSP.
It's because he'll probably never get another title shot again—ever. And because he probably doesn't have the ability to beat GSP.
Dan Henderson
4 of 10Dan Henderson may soon come off this list, as he may soon get a second shot at UFC gold.
First, he lost both his title unification fights in the UFC. He lost to Rampage Jackson by unanimous decision, and he lost to Anderson Silva by second round submission.
He was supposed to get another shot at Silva, and the middleweight belt, but he left the UFC and went to Strikeforce instead.
Now that he's back in the UFC, he is one win away from a shot at either the middleweight, or light heavyweight belts.
We'll have to see what happens with that.
Wanderlei Silva
5 of 10A true legend of MMA, Wanderlei Silva, never really found himself in his UFC career.
He came over to the UFC in the Pride deal, but during his UFC tenure (this time around), he has gone 2-4, with losses to Chuck Liddell, Rampage Jackson, Rich Franklin and Chris Leben.
The only people he's beaten are Keith Jardine and Michael Bisping.
Silva never found the killer instinct and lethality that made him a star in Pride.
Urijah Faber
6 of 10Urijah Faber is the former longtime WEC featherweight champion, unfortunately, championship fights have not been his forte as of late.
In his past four title fights, he has lost all of them.
He lost his last three for the WEC featherweight title, and most recently, dropped a unanimous decision to Dominick Cruz for the UFC bantamweight title.
Faber has lost to the bantamweight champion, and the featherweight champion, so where could he possibly go for a title?
Fedor Emelianenko
7 of 10Fedor had to make an appearance on this list, didn't he?
Fedor may go down as the best fighter to never fight in the UFC, and therefore, the best fighter to never hold a UFC belt.
It is truly up for debate how Fedor would have fared in the UFC, but given his performance as of late, perhaps it was best he never came over.
He would have been destroyed.
Mirko Cro Cop
8 of 10Mirko Cro Cop is another Pride star who never found his stride in the UFC.
Cro Cop debuted with a quick TKO over Eddie Sanchez, and then he was put into a No. 1 contender match against Gabriel Gonzaga, and that's when everything changed.
After Gonzaga landed the head kick that floored Cro Cop, his career went downhill.
Cro Cop has gone 4-5 in his UFC career, most recently suffering two devastating knockouts to Frank Mir and Brendan Schaub.
Cro Cop fights for what could be the last time against Roy Nelson at UFC 137.
Jake Shields
9 of 10Jake Shields went six years and 15 fights undefeated.
He beat Carlos Condit and Yushin Okami in one night.
Then he met Georges St-Pierre.
GSP ended Shields' streak, and sent him back down the welterweight ladder.
Then in his next fight, Shields was KO'd in less than a minute against Jake Ellenberger.
Shields was one of the best, was the Strikeforce middleweight champion, and has a lot of names on his resume.
But unless he moves up to middleweight, and even then, I don't see him winning a UFC title.
Chael P. Sonnen
10 of 10Chael may not be on this list for much longer, but he is a great fighter, and is yet to wear UFC gold.
He came closer than anyone to defeating Anderson Silva at UFC 117, and now that he's defeated Brian Stann and earned a second shot at Silva, he wants to finish what he started.
Sonnen's coming for that title, and he's going to beat Anderson Silva down to get it.
