TNA Star Kurt Angle Arrested for DUI; What Does It Mean for Impact Wrestling?

Hamster EnigmaAnalyst IIISeptember 5, 2011

Online reports have indicated and confirmed the rumors that TNA star Kurt Angle was recently arrested for driving under the influence.

Why is this important news?

It's because of one credential Angle has, and one credential only.

His championship.

His Olympic gold medal doesn't really matter here; what matters most is his TNA World Heavyweight Championship.

Why does it matter more than a gold medal?

It's because the TNA World Heavyweight Championship is the main championship of the company and Angle is the wrestler who holds it.

That means he's the representative of Impact Wrestling, and as the representative of the company, he's supposed to symbolize the company's image. He's supposed to be the model of what the company's about.

So is the company about driving under the influence?

I doubt it, and Angle is supposed to represent that sobriety that's supposed to be TNA. He's supposed to represent the brand, and getting arrested is not a great way to show it.

He is the champion after all—why not act like it? Why give the company more problems than it already has?

After the whole Hardy incident (both of them) and the financial trouble, is this really helping the cause that the company is trying to withhold?

No, it isn't.

I may be overreacting here, but I think Angle just screwed up his reign as the TNA heavyweight champion.

Give it to someone else now and let him try to represent the company's image better while allowing Angle to train for the upcoming Olympics.

Give it to someone like Crimson, who is apparently being built up to be the new face of the company. Or better yet, give it to an established talent who really deserves to hold the main belt at least once in his career (Christopher Daniels).

Or, the preferable and safe choice, give it to A.J. Styles. He's already held it before and can represent the sober image while showcasing to the audience just what the company is all about.

Give it to Styles—the man knows how to fly. He knows how to carry the company and be its representative face.

Styles has done it before and can do it again. He can make the company phenomenal.

Or, at least, that's what I think. It's my suggestion, what is yours?

What does this arrest mean for Impact Wrestling?

Is it really a big deal or not?

Should Kurt Angle pass the torch and let someone else be the face of TNA?
