Top 10 Worst Sports Personalities
This is a list of those guys that I can't stand in the sports world. The guys that make me want to change the channel. The guys who write the columns I hate. The guys who say the dumbest things—constantly. The guys that flat-out make me hate sports. The guys that make you wonder how they even have a job.
10. The Sports Guy
I am not a fan of Bill Simmons or his columns. Why is the title The Sports Guy given to a passionate Boston fan? It should be someone neutral, like Chris Berman. And I don't understand why Simmons constantly talks about his dad in his articles.

Every single article.
The phone call he made to his dad after the Red Sox won the pennant. The phone call he received from his dad after the Patriots lost the Super Bowl. I have absolutely no problem with a father-son relationship revolving around sports—in fact, I think it's great—but it doesn't make for an interesting read to learn more about what he said to his dad every article.
The Sports Guy also makes lots of pop culture references, many of them to Lindsey Lohan. He uses extended analogies and takes forever to get to the point.
And he's a bandwagon fan. He claims that poor management caused him to lose interest in the Boston Bruins, but then he followed the team almost excessively during the 2008 NHL playoffs. He is currently not writing for ESPN, due to some 'dispute' over a recent column.
9. Tony Kornheiser
Kornheiser knows his stuff, but not as well as he thinks he does. He doesn't deserve the spot on Monday Night Football because he doesn't view the game the way a former professional athlete does. You can't learn specific offensive and defensive techniques unless you have played the game.
I also find Kornheiser way too sarcastic. He constantly tries to be funny, even during broadcasts on Monday Night Football games, and there are times when you just want your broadcaster to shut up and announce the game.
8. Skip Bayless
I won't even get into his whiny and obnoxious voice. Instead, I dislike this man because he is always trying to cause controversy. It doesn't matter what he is debating; he just wants controversy. In order to achieve controversy, he takes ridiculous sides on sports debates. He claims that kicking field goals and extra points should be banned from the NFL.
He bashes every superstar who he feels does not succeed in the clutch, including Tiger Woods, LeBron James, Peyton Manning, Mike Piazza, Kevin Garnett, and eight-time Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps. He has informed his audience that he considers himself to be the 'conscience' of ESPN's First and 10.
7. Rush Limbaugh
A conservative political commentator, Rush Limbaugh also briefly worked as a weekly analyst for ESPN's NFL Countdown in 2003. Limbaugh sparked lots of controversy when he publicly stated that the media wants Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb to succeed because he is black.
Just two days later, ESPN released an official statement, apologizing for Limbaugh's actions. Rush Limbaugh resigned from ESPN and went back to his radio show.
McNabb led the Eagles to the 2003 NFC Championship Game. After an improbable comeback victory against the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Divisional round of the playoffs, Sports Illustrated placed McNabb on the cover with the headline “What a Rush!” It was a direct reference to Limbaugh's comments from September.
6. Jim Caple
This one is personal. This is not only because you wrote an article bashing my world champion Philadelphia Phillies. You are on this list because you had the nerve to bash a world champion.
Not only did you insult our Phillies and compare us to an AAA team, you insulted our fans by telling us HOW to celebrate our first title in any sport in the last quarter of a century.
Don't ever insult the fans of a team that just won the championship.
I would be pissed off if I were a Rays fan and I saw this article, because it's not who you root for. It's the fact that you had the nerve to insult a group of fans who just watched their team win the World Series.
The ridiculous fact?
You picked the Rays in four. After game one, you should have kept your mouth shut. Admit when you're wrong and don't be a sore loser.
5. Stephen A. Smith
Stephen A. Smith is a Philadelphia man, but I still don't like him. He is brash and arrogant. He's also not that smart. He was demoted from his job as sportswriter for the Philadelphia Inquirer and now works as the general assignment reader. His work with the Inquirer completely ended in 2008.
He had his own TV show for a year and a half, called Quite Frankly with Stephen A. Smith, but the TV ratings were terrible and the show was cancelled. He had a radio show in New York that lasted for only seven months, because Smith decided to attempt to continue his previously unsuccessful television career.
4. Cris Collinsworth
Collinsworth? I just don't like him. He has been with the NFL for almost twenty years, but I just don't feel he contributes anything. He appears to be almost mean at times, and is very critical of specific teams.
His hatred for the 49ers is obvious, perhaps because they defeated his Bengals twice in the Super Bowl during the 1980's. He also dislikes almost every NFC East team, specifically the Eagles and the Giants. I find myself constantly paying attention to the 'other' broadcaster with Collingsworth during football games.
3. John Madden
I'm sorry. I'm very sorry. I am about to insult a legend, one of the greatest football minds of all-time. The man for which a video game is named.
First of all, John Madden is obsessed with Brett Favre. Absolutely obsessed with Brett Favre, to the point where it's almost a little weird.
Secondly, John Madden is no longer productive as an NFL color commentator. He routinely makes the dumbest comments on live television.
I remember an Eagles game in 2005, where David Akers lined up for a 60-yard field goal with three seconds left and the Eagles down by one. Madden announced that Akers better make this kick if the Eagles want to win this game.
I feel that Al Michaels is there to basically save John from further embarrassment. I have also heard rumors, probably not true, that John Madden wears adult diapers in the broadcast booth.
Basically, this man was a legend and I had the utmost respect for him, but he needs to retire, because he is wearing out his welcome and is no longer productive. Kind of like Brett Favre.
2. Jim Rome
This man is very, very successful.
But he is extremely annoying, whiny, sarcastic, arrogant, and obnoxious. He thinks that he is hilarious and loves repeating the same joke over and over again. Rome is one of those people that likes to hear himself talk, just to talk. He knows his stuff, but fills his shows with stupid humor and dumb jokes.
The video clip of Rams' quarterback Jim Everett knocking Jim Rome to the ground during a live interview is one of my favorite video clips of all-time. This was after Rome had repeatedly called Jim Everett “Chris”, after the famous female tennis star of the era.
Comedian Frank Caliendo captures the true essence of Jim Rome perfectly in one of his legendary imitations.
1. Joe Buck
Daddy got you your job, Joe Buck. Now it's time to create your own legacy. Buck has no creativity and copies his father's calls in clutch situations, notably during both the 2002 and 2006 World Series.
He has no charm or charisma and is very boring. Buck has admitted that he receives text messages from his friends daring him to say specific phrases (like: jub jub) during the 2007 World Series—nothing wrong with this, but it's childish and immature.
Buck admitted in July of 2008 that he no longer enjoys announcing baseball games, but then claimed to be joking just two days later.
Finally, as a Phillies fan, I hate Joe Buck because he shows extreme dislike towards the Philadelphia Phillies, when a commentator is expected to show no favoritism towards either team. I'll never forget being in Philadelphia the night we won the World Series, and hearing the glorious chants of “F--- Joe Buck."
